6. How to interpret individual cards.
7. How to develop your psychic ability.

So let’s get down to it. As you can see, there are many ways to use the cards. We use
them for all of the above. Over the last 17 years and more, our Tarot Cards have provided
us with insight into the nature of the Universe, our own and other people’s lives, a way to
help others and answer their questions and supplied significant income. We have opened
up to more extensive ability in the Psychic area we use to confirm what the cards say and
provide additional insight.

In order to use your cards to best effect, we suggest that a fundamental understanding of
them is a necessity and a platform for the future. By understanding a general meaning for
each card, how to link them in a spread, and having these skills second nature, you will
find you can use the cards for any purpose.

1. How to Conduct a Reading

There are two methods we use when we layout a spread.

1. Ask your client to shuffle the cards. Then get them to cut them in three. They
select the mini deck to use. Deal these cards face down starting at position one
until you fill up the layout.
2. Spread the cards out in a fan shape. This may take a little practice. Ask the client
to select the number of cards required for the spread. Lay them out from the top
down until the spread is filled.

Don’t get too caught up in rules. The cards have a habit of coming out the way they want
to. You really can’t do it wrong. Take a note of any cards, which fall out of the deck
during shuffling. They are a clue to the reading. Note any reverse, or upside down cards.
Interpreting these is in our Tarot Consultant Manual.

3. Turn one card at a time over in order. Note the position, which tells you what this
card refers to. For instance, the “where you find yourself” or ”present” position in
the Celtic Cross describes what is occurring right now. A Knight of Wands in this
position could indicate a move of house.
4. Using the keys and looking at the symbols let your imagination run wild and tell
your client what the card is saying to them. Start with the literal meaning and
allow yourself to move beyond that. You may see pictures, be aware of feelings or
have words come into your head. These are all clues as to what the card is saying.
To start with you will be amazed at how much you know simply from interpreting
the symbolism and literal meaning. A detailed list of Tarot Symbols and their
interpretation is included in our “Tarot Consultant’s Manual.”
5. Repeat this for each position until you have finished the reading.

Note: Read the Section “Linking the Cards” in our “Learn Tarot in One Day Course” for
some advanced techniques to enhance your interpretation of the reading.

As a final step you may wish to add up the total numerology of the reading. Court Cards
count as zero. Add the numbers until you get a single digit. If the cards add up to 32, add
3+2 = 5. Look this number up for the overall meaning. “11” and “22” are master
numbers. If your cards add up to these, there is no need for further breakdown. Check this
against the “Tarot Numerology” section in our “Learn Tarot in One Day Course” for an
insight into what the whole reading is about.

2 Tarot for Personal Development

There are many ways you can use the cards for your own personal development. Here
we are assuming you wish to use the cards to find insight into your life and where it is
heading and ways to improve your outlook on life, leading to more fun and happiness.
After spending over $30,000 and three years of my life on Personal Development
Courses, I can say it was the best decision of my life. The end result – I married Linda,
learned all about Tarot and the information we offer in our courses, changed my career,
and now have a wonderful life helping others to greater success. (John)

For those interested in furthering their own journey, you can read my story in my book,
“Life Mastery – how to achieve it” available at http://www.pems.com.au/lifemastery.htm

Using Tarot in this area, here are a few tips.

a. Take a card from your deck each day, find a quiet place in nature and sit and
contemplate it for 15-30 minutes. Look at the card and the symbols and ask what
they are saying to you. We find that in time the cards start to talk to you. You
notice certain items and can feel that they mean something. It is a sort of active
meditation. Start with the Major Arcana. This is a great exercise we recommend in
our course to get to discover hidden meanings in the cards.
b. Do a reading for yourself every day for a month. Once you have a clear
understanding of Tarot, use them for yourself. We know this is a bit controversial
and some frown on it, but it has done nothing but enhance our life experience.
When we have important decisions to make, we consult the cards. When we are
looking for answers, we consult the cards. They have been a great guide to
resolving conflicts in our marriage, to providing career direction. It was the result
of using Tarot for our own development that this project now exists!
c. Here is an extract on a Tarot Profile you can make to use for your ongoing
personal development. It will provide some great insights for you and your
clients. A complete version is included in our Tarot Consultant’s Manual. It
combines Tarot and Numerology. In the profile there are the personality, soul,
zodiac, and year cards. The personality, soul, and zodiac cards are lifetime cards,
while the year cards change annually

Personality Card - This indicates life purpose, aspirations and lessons to be learned in
this lifetime. It shows how you express yourself in the world, and how others see you. It
denotes how you should be using your inherent gifts, talents, and resources.

To find out your personality card you add your date of birth together.

Example: 19/08/1947 = 1+9+0+8+1+9+4+7 = 39

3 + 9 = 12 = The Hanged Man.

Your personality number should fall between 1 - 22.

Soul Card

This indicates your soul or spiritual purpose, and what qualities assist you. Also, what
inspires you.

To find out your soul card, reduce the personality double digit to a single digit.

Using the same example from the personality card, 12 = 1+2= 3

3 = The Empress.

Hence, this person’s personality card is the Moon, and their soul card is the Empress.

Zodiac Card

This is your sun sign. It indicates what you need for self-expression.
If your soul and/or personality cards are the same as your zodiac card, then that major
arcana card is more magnified as your life purpose. If the zodiac card is different, then
it shows you the natural gifts that can help you to achieve your life purpose.

To find your zodiac card, look up the astrological correspondences in the Tarot
Consultant Manual and find out which major arcana card is linked to your sun sign.

Current Year Card

This card indicates the growth, challenges, and opportunities for the year. It shows you
what qualities you should be developing at this time.

To find your year card for 1995, simple add the day and month of your birth date to the
current year.

If you have a good understanding of Astrology and Numerology in relation to the Tarot,
you should be able to utilize this information fully. To save time, we have a more
complete version plus full Astrological and Numerological correspondences in our Tarot
Consultant’s Manual.

3 How You Can Help Others

If you are someone who wishes to make a positive contribution to the lives of others,
Tarot is an extremely useful tool. Because the cards are impartial and third party, they are
a non-threatening way of passing information others need to make necessary life changes.
We believe that we are responsible for our decisions in life and that each choice we make
has certain consequences. Once you make that choice, you head down a certain pathway
leading to expected outcomes. The Tarot can let you know what those might be prior to
making the decision.

Let’s say your friend is about to start a new relationship and you know this isn’t going to
work out. She is blinded by live and won’t listen to your advice. By conducting a reading,
she can see in the cards what the likely outcome will be. We have a saying, “The Cards
Never Lie!” and over the years we have found this to be true. A classic example is how
Linda and I met. Linda was in a relationship and looking for a verification that she had
found her soulmate. She went to a reader and received a description of someone different!
After six readings similar. She finally found someone who told her what she wanted to
hear. There are some people who don’t really read cards, they just tell you anything and
take your money. Fortunately most won’t do this. As readers, we pride ourselves in telling
the truth, warts and all, and value our personal integrity. Anyway, shortly after she met
me! You guessed it, I matched the man in the Tarot Cards, so I partly have Tarot to thank
for finding my Soul Mate!!

Use a decision spread to help others with their choices. A friend of ours does this with
corporate executives making major decisions in large companies. You would be amazed
what goes on in the boardrooms of major companies!
Tarot provides independent advice. This can be a great way to help others see the truth of
what is happening in their lives, avoid bad decisions, and do this without creating
conflict. You might even help your friends find their perfect partners!

4 How to Answer Questions

Tarot can be used to answer any question your client might have. You can use a standard
Celtic Cross or any number of question spreads. These can incorporate many areas
surrounding the question, insights into possible solutions to a situation, even timing in the
future.

A simple question spread is a three card spread. Simply think of the question to be
answered and lay out three cards, representing past, present and future.

When asking questions of the Tarot, we find that open questions are better. A question
such as, when will I marry Bill may bring a confusing answer. It could be that you are not
going to marry him at all, so asking a closed question with definite outcomes limits you.
Sometimes we tend to mould our answers to suit what we want to see. Let's say you lay
out a three card spread on Bill. The centre card is a Knight of Wands. Typically this is a
young man who is out to conquer the world. He is full of fire and those in the way better
watch out. Now Bill is a placid man, one who dreams and never really does much. He is
more into meditation than action. The temptation is to use the square peg in a round hole
technique and fit Bill into the card so you are right. What this reading indicates is that
there is someone else who you are going to marry who is very different. It may also be a
part of Bill's character that he is suppressing. Asking, "what type of man will I marry", or
"who will I marry" opens up the reading for a wider interpretation. When told of the type
of man a Knight of Wands is, you are at the bus stop a few weeks later and someone
draws your attention. He smiles, you exchange glances, and as your eyes meet you
recognise your soul mate. After you go out with him a couple of times you notice he is
just like the man in your reading. If you insisted on marrying Bill, you would have
missed out!

So here are a few tips on answering questions.

• Ask open ended questions - let the cards tell the story.
• Be open to answers other than what you expect - expectation narrows
possibilities.
• Start with a simple three card spread and then use more complicated spreads
for further insight.
• If you are looking for general direction or guidance, use a Celtic Cross or
Seven Card Question spread.
• Try several readings around the same question - you will be amazed how
similar the answers are sometimes.
• Let your client know that this is your opinion, not necessarily correct. Ask
them to think about what has been said and see how that fit's into her own
ideas.
5 Becoming a Professional Tarot Reader

The business of being a professional Tarot reader is one that can be both rewarding and
profitable. Nowadays there are many opportunities for readers from Psychic Fairs to
Coffee Shops and Private Consultations. You can work for a few hours per week or full
time. It is up to you. This section is an extract from the Tarot Consultant’s Manual, and
lists some of the possibilities, and how to go about creating a business with the Tarot.

To start out you really only need a set of Tarot cards. Once you have completed the
Certificate course you will be familiar with the meanings of the cards and how to perform
basic readings. From this point it is best to learn a few layouts so that you can lay the
cards out with total confidence. The Celtic Cross, Three Card, Astrology, and Seven Card
Spreads are a good mix.

Develop your skills by reading for anyone who will allow you. The more readings you
perform, the quicker your skills will develop. There is no substitute for this. You may be
able to find a Spiritualist Church where you can perform readings voluntarily. Working at
a Spiritualist fair you can do as many readings as you wish during a day. Because you are
not being paid, you can feel free to leave when you have had enough.

When you first read you may find that two or three readings in a row leaves you feeling a
little exhausted. If this happens, take a rest. Readers are required to give full attention to
clients, in time you will be able to read all day long. Take it slowly.

There are many areas where you can work as a reader. These are Psychic Fairs, Markets,
New Age and Coffee Shops, Cruises, Entertainment Venues, and as a Private Consultant.
You can also use your skills when travelling.

Dress appropriately, set up an appropriate ambience for a consultation area. Purchase

appropriate aids, i.e. candles, pictures, cloths, etc. Use items which enhance your
professional status and leave clients at ease.

There are many Tarot readers. Few are exceptional. By giving good customer service and
maintaining a high standard of integrity and service you must become successful. Look
around at the number of business which are successful despite themselves.

This section is just part of the information on how to set up Tarot as a business, part of
our Tarot Consultant Manual.

6 How to Interpret Individual Cards

In reality, this is part of an overall reading. You can read each card in isolation, or as part
of a spread. Each of the Major Arcana has a specific meaning. The cards can be seen as
the journey of life. The first seven cards deal with the lessons of life in the outer world -
such as love, morality, education, and career. The Chariot signifies the final mastery of
these. The second seven deal with the issues of the inner life. The Temperence
represents final mastery. The third seven deals with the cosmic forces and universal laws,
which are represented by the planetary spheres. We confront spiritual reality, which
while making the other two seem small in comparison, integrates and synthesises both.

The Court Cards can be seen as people you know. Spend some time looking at the
characteristics of each court card and think of who you know who is like the figure on the
card. The more people you categorise in this way, the easier it will be for you to interpret
court cards.

For the minor arcana, learning basic numerology will assist greatly in understanding the
meanings of individual cards. This also applies to the major arcana.

Look at the symbols used in the card. Often an extended gaze at the card will open up
your intuition and it will speak to you.

Finally, the cards have correspondences in Astrology, so looking at their equivalent

astrological sign gives further insight.

More detail is included in our Tarot Consultant Manual.

7 How to Develop Your Psychic Ability

This is a huge subject and could fill an entire volume, so here you will learn some basic
techniques which work very well.

You may be interested to know that studies done with Australian Aborigines on ESP
showed that they possessed remarkable powers beyond that of Westerners. While many
doubt our ability to tap into the unseen world, we know different. Better still, this is a
learned skill.

Here are a few tips to enhance your perception of the unseen world of the Psychic.

1. Practice close observation. When something catches your eye, take a close look.
Anything that comes to our attention has significance. It is a matter of looking at
what the object or event has to say to us.
2. Ask the question and expect an answer! Anything that pops into your mind is a
clue. When you receive information during a reading, ask what the information
means. Keep asking questions about details and you will be surprised what
happens.
3. Practice Palm Clairvoyance. Ask to hold your client’s palm in yours while you
conduct a reading. This has two significant purposes. To do this they have to
unfold their arms and therefore open up to you reading them. You can feel energy
from the touch and with practice this will talk to you, providing great insight.
4. Spend time in nature. That is what the aborigines do! The more time you spend
alone or in the stillness, the easier it is to clear your mind of thoughts and allow
the messages to come through. In the west, most of us are so busy thinking about
the past or future, that we don’t have enough room for present time thoughts to be
noticed. When we learn to be comfortable with our own company, and release all
worry and thoughts of the outside world, we find that our Psychic Powers increase
greatly.
5. Meditate daily. The Buddhist form of meditation is where you find a quiet place
and practice observation of your thoughts. Start with 5 minutes a day. IN time you
will have gaps between your thoughts. This is an amazing experience. As those
gaps increase, you will not only feel blissful, but your Psychic ability will expand.

The are many ways to open up your Psychic powers. We all have them and when
developed, they give us the ability to make right choices in life and spot trouble before it
reaches us. We believe that it is this ability that has enabled us to live such a blessed life.
We are guided by inner voices, and listen and act on them. It is a great way to live, but
one which necessitated a complete change of attitude and thinking.

Final Words

As you can see, there are many ways you can use Tarot Cards for yourself and others. I
am sure that using your imagination, you can discover many other uses for the cards. We
have found that a fundamental understanding of this ancient art provides us with insights
to assist with our own decision making and clarify areas of life which we can’t
understand. Whenever a friend rings for advice, we go to the Tarot for answers.

We cannot possible provide everything you need in one report, you would be still reading
it by this time tomorrow! Our Learn Tarot in One Day is designed to shorten your
learning curve significantly. So many of our students who have taken the course have told
us that it made everything clear and easy. This was despite in some cases 6 week courses
of study. For serious students we include our comprehensive Tarot Consultant’s Manual
which explains everything in this report in greater detail. This is a must for your library
and you can use it as a reference when conducting readings. It looks very professional.
