Rioja has enjoyed a run of very fine vintages recently, with

2006 being hailed by the region’s winemakers as a year of
“great concentration delivering some stunning wines” – officially
rated “very good” by Rioja’s governing body. Taste this glorious
2006 and you’ll straightaway understand why.
The Martínez Corta family are doing some amazing things with
their intensity-boosting 65-year-old Tempranillo vines – owned
and tended by the family themselves, which is still rare in Rioja.
A flurry of awards and glowing reviews from the Spanish press is the
well-deserved result.
Tasting note: Layer upon layer of generous, spice-edged raspberry,
blueberry and plum flavours plus the silky finish that makes Rioja such
