Please outline this lesson:

Materials: Smartboard (music video-Echolocation),

definition sheet and, book Zipping, Zapping, Zooming Bats,
by Ann Earle
Introduction: Have the students seated on the rug. Tell
the children that we are going to learn many new vocabulary
words about bats. Some you may have heard of before and
some you have not. Todays new word is going to be
echolocation.
Activities: I will proceed to explain what is echolocation
by reading a section in the book. When the section is
over. We will proceed to do an echolocation activity.
The students will sent in a circle. One child will be
chosen to be a bat. He/she will be blindfolded with a
shaker. Another child standing on the outside of the
circle will also have a shaker. As the bat shakes the
container, the circle member waits a few seconds then
shakes back to simulate the sound waves bouncing
back. Then the bat tries to locate its prey

The children will then return to their seats and draw

what echolocation looks like and its definition.

IV.

Extension Activities: Our group will continue learning new

vocabulary about Bats. We will also continue to add to
our new learning as well as reorganizing our
misconceptions about bats.
How will student learning be assessed throughout the lesson?
Through teacher observation and student participation
and completion of the procedure activity.
