I. Code of Ethics defined
also known as ETHICAL CODE, Code of Ethics are principles adopted by an
organization to assist those in the organization called upon to make a decision. Usually most
understand the difference between right and wrong and to apply this understanding to their
decision. A written set of guidelines issued by an organization to its workers and management to
help them conduct their actions in accordance with its primary values and ethical standards.
II. Purpose of Code of Ethics

to give every employee an insight into the Mission, Values and Principles underlying the
Companys activities

to establish standards of ethical behavior which shall govern relations within the
Company
and with customers, business associates, suppliers, state authorities, the community and
competitors;

to serve as a tool for preventing possible offences and conflict situations, as well as
developing a corporate culture based on high ethical standards.

III. Code of Conduct & Code of Practice

Code of Conduct - it is a document designed to influence the behavior of employees.
They set out the procedures to be used in specific ethical si tuations and delineate whether a
violation of the code of ethics occurred and, if so, remedies should be imposed.
Code of Practice - it is adopted by a profession or by a governmental or nongovernmental organization to regulate that profession. It may be styled as a code of professional
responsibility, which will discuss difficult issues, difficult decisions that will often need to be
made, and provide a clear account of what behavior is considered ethical or correct or
right in the circumstances.
IV. Facts about Ethical Code
In order to be effective the development and the implementation of an organizational
code needs to be carefully considered. Codes should reflect the true values and behaviors that
the organization wants to uphold rather than being a public relations exercise.
The content of an organization's code will be influenced by the objectives of the code as
well as the organization's strategy and culture. Codes should use plain, positive language, should
be clear and precise and widely accessible. Their implementation should be actively monitored.
There also needs to be training and support for individuals to enable them to deal with
circumstances which may threaten the values the organisation wants to uphold.
One of the unknown factors in developing and implementing a code of conduct depends
on how individuals are likely to respond to it. An organization needs to understand how codes
will affect individuals' decision making and behavior.
The effectiveness of the code will depend on an individual's ability to interpret and apply
the code to a variety of situations.
V. Users of the code of ethics
Code of ethics is broad. It can be used by any persons not only the professionals like
accountants and doctors. It depends to the institution you are working with. Examples of users of

code of ethics in institution are: For schools Students, teachers, administrators, and employees.
For business Customers, employees, suppliers, owners and providers of capital, government,
and society in general.
VI. Ethical Code for Students
Integrity of Students- it is the most basic prerequisite to earning and retaining trust.
Very high standards of integrity should be upheld. There is no compromise of principles for any
reason. Character is as important as competence in profession.
