Remember in Prayer

The path

Antiques are very popular these days. Vintage is all the rage in nearby Franklin and there are antique stores
everywhere in the rolling hills of middle Tennessee. I must admit that I enjoy looking for things from the past. I come
from a long line of people who enjoy antiques and seeing the past come back to life. My grandmother, whos
worshipping with us here at Church Street today, will tell you that she owns more Victorian pickle jars than anyone
in the United States. But thats neither here nor there
The Psalmist showed a longing in his heart for an earlier time in the 84th Psalm. He wanted to go back to a time
when he knew the Lord more intimately. He uses the words long and yearn. Those words have an intensity to
them. Think about those men that played in the Super Bowl last week. They have worked their entire lives for that
opportunity to play on that stage. All of those days on the practice field, in the weight room, and in the film room
were leading up to the big game. Do we have that kind of intensity when it comes to our desire to know and to please
the Lord? Are we consumed with that desire?
Always remember that our desire is to know the Lord more intimately. That is why we go to church. That is why
we read our Bible. That is why we pray. Think about it! You do not go to a courtroom to see the courtroom, but to
find justice. You do not go to a hospital to see the equipment, but to find healing. You do not go to a school for the
building, but for the education. Our purpose and desire is to know the Lord. The difference in just going to church
and in truly encountering the Lord is the difference in reading a lecture on atomic energy and watching a bomb
explode. Our desire and our intention is to meet the Living God!
How lovely is Your tabernacle, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the LORD. My
heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself
where she may lay her young. Even your altars, O LORD, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your
house; they will still be praising You. Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a spring; the rain also covers it with pools. They go from
strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion. O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer. Give ear, O God of
Jacob! O God, behold our shield, and look upon the face of Your anointed. For a day in Your courts is better than a
thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the
LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory. No good thing will He withhold from those who
walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You! (Psalm 84 NKJV)
