SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
Artists are invited to submit up to 6 images. The selectors are aware that some work may not lend
itself to reproduction and wish to reassure artists that there may be opportunities to view actual
works.
Artists can enter online. If artists are unable to enter online please
contact derwent@parkerharris.co.uk for further details.
Artists are required to submit the following:
KEY DATES
1 June 2016: Deadline for entry
24th June 2016: All artists notified of first stage selection process
30th August 12th September 2016: Delivery of work (to Art Moves of Chelsea)
12th September 2016: Delivery of work (in person to Art Moves of Chelsea, 10am-5pm GMT)
19th-24th September 2016: Exhibition opens to public
19th September 2016: Private View and Prize Winners announced
October December 2016: Exhibition tour
The work selected for exhibition must be available from 1st September 2016 31st January 2017.
THE ARTIST
The Prize is open to all living British and international artists over the age of 18 years old on 1st
June 2016.
A third party (e.g. gallery, agent or other representative) may submit work on behalf of the artist,
but the third party must confirm:
receipt of the artists permission, and have full authority and legal right, to submit the work
that to provide the information regarding the artist or the artists work, they have first
consulted with the artist and made all appropriate enquiries for the purpose of providing that
information
agree to be bound by these Conditions of Entry as the artist would be had they entered
The Prize is not open to work by deceased artists.
THE WORK
The work entered must be created in pencil (including water-soluble, pastel, graphite, charcoal or
coloured pencils). The work must not exceed 182cms in its greatest dimension. There is no
minimum size limit. The Prize is open to both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional works. All entered
work must have been completed within the last 3 years. The work selected for exhibition must be
available from 1st September 2016 31st January 2017 .
INADMISSIBLE WORKS
Work that does not fit within the Conditions of Entry will not be admissible and will not be
considered for exhibition. The following are also inadmissible:
Copies of works
Works that are in breach of copyright
Works that have been previously exhibited
Work that contain noxious or toxic substances, are flammable below 50C or incorporate
dangerous electrical equipment
The competition is not open to employees of the Cumberland Pencil Co, ACCO (UK) Ltd,
their families and its agencies
Artists are reminded that all work submitted must conform to all health and safety standards and
regulations.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
Whilst The Cumberland Pencil Company shall use reasonable skill in all circumstances in handling
artists works, occasional damage to works may occur. The Cumberland Pencil Company shall have
no liability whatsoever for any loss, damage or destruction (including loss of profits or any other
consequential loss, indirect or incidental losses) to, or relating to, a work of art submitted for
exhibition unless such loss arises as a direct result of negligence by The Cumberland Pencil
Company. The Cumberland Pencil Companys total liability for damage to a work of art arising in
connection with these conditions of entry (whether from negligence, tort, breach of contract or
otherwise) shall not exceed the lower of the value of the work of art as stated on the Entry Form (if
provided) or the value as determined by an independent valuer selected by The Cumberland Pencil
Company.
It is highly recommended that the exhibiting artists insure with a reputable insurance company
their works of art for their market value.
SALE OF WORKS
Works selected for exhibition may be offered for sale. The Cumberland Pencil Company will levy
40% plus VAT commission on all works sold during the exhibitions or afterwards directly as a result
of the Derwent Art Prize both at the exhibitions and on the website. Artists must make sure that
their sale price includes the commission and, if applicable, VAT. Artists who are registered for VAT
must ensure that they include their VAT number on the Entry Form.
A red spot will be used to indicate to the public that the work is subject to sale. The Cumberland
Pencil Company will send official offers of sale by email to the artist. This will incorporate a
statement summarising the details of the transaction. The Cumberland Pencil Companys role is
strictly limited to introducing the purchaser to the artist. The Cumberland Pencil Company does not
act as the artists agent or partner, and has no authority to negotiate or conclude the sale of a work.
RETURN OF WORKS
During each of the exhibitions the artists will be contacted by the organisers to make arrangements
for the collection or return of their work if unsold. International artists are reminded that they are
responsible for the cost of return of their work including any customs or export duty. Any works not
collected by the artists will be subject to storage charges. The Cumberland Pencil Company reserves
the right to dispose of any works after the exhibition that have not been collected by the artists or
the artists have made no attempt to collect their work within 3 months of the collection date.
WITHDRAWAL OF WORKS
The Cumberland Pencil Company reserves the right to deny admission or withdraw a work from the
exhibition if for any reason the work, or any circumstances surrounding the display of the work,
appears to The Cumberland Pencil Company to expose it to risk of legal proceedings.
DATA PROTECTION
In accordance with the Data Protection Act The Cumberland Pencil Company will hold the personal
data of artists supplied on the Entry Form securely. The data will only be used in the process of
administering the Derwent Art Prize and will not be transferred to any third party not directly
involved in this Exhibition.
Agreement to the Conditions of entry
By entering the Derwent Art Prize artists are agreeing to all of the above Conditions of entry.
