History
Lancôme launched its first five fragrances in 1935 at the World's Fair in
Brussels - Tendre Nuit, Bocages, Conquete, Kypre and Tropiques. Lancome
fragrances are made in association with perfumers Alain Astori, Annick
Menardo, Daniela Roche-Andrier, Christian Biecher, Jacques Cavallier,
Calice Becker, Pauline Zanoni, Maurice Roucel, Thierry Wasser, Christine
Nagel, Armand Petitjean, Gerard Goupy, Olivier Cresp, Harry Fremont,
Alberto Morillas, Dominique Ropion, Olivier Polge, Francis Kurkdjian,
Robert Gonnon, Nathalie Lorson, Sophia Grojsman and Alienor Massenet.
Soon after, Lancôme expanded its business into makeup and skincare
products. One noteworthy product was Nutrix launched in 1936.
Spanish actress and model Inés Sastre has represented Lancôme as a global
spokesmodel since 1996, appearing in dozens of Lancôme advertisements
over the years. A native of Spain, supermodel Inès Sastre was born in
Valladolid. She began her modeling and acting career at the age of 12 when
she was selected for a local TV commercial. In 1989, she won the famous
Elite “Look of the Year” supermodel contest. Three years later, she moved
to Paris to begin her studies at La Sorbonne University from which she
graduated with a degree in Modern Literature. As a model, Inès has graced
the covers of international magazines, including Elle and Marie Claire, and
has worked with top photographers including Bruce Weber, Michel Comte
and Richard Avedon. She was the “face” of the 1992 Olympic Games in
Barcelona, Spain.
On June 11, 2007, Kate Winslet was unveiled as the spokesmodel for
Lancôme. Her first assignment was the relaunch of the Lancôme fragrance
Trésor (formerly promoted by Inés Sastre) in late 2007.
Late in 2009, Lancôme announced that Oscar winner and global superstar
Julia Roberts will represent the company. Lancôme advertising featuring
Julia Roberts will appear in Spring 2010.
