AOM Providers Can Add Value

Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AOM)

involves inserting sterile, disposable
needles at identified acupoints on the body
to stimulate the bodys natural healing
abilities and is among the most widely
practiced forms of alternative medicine in
the country. Acupuncture has proven
efficacy with a number of the VA
initiatives:

PTSD
Depression, Anxiety
Pain/ Vocational Rehabilitation
Digestive disorders
Addiction (to medications, alcohol, smoking)

AOM is more than 2,000 years old, and

was used for any ailment in Asia from pain
to insomnia and mental illness.
Specifically, acupuncture has been used to
treat mental illness since 1100 BC (Hoizey
and Hoizey, 1993; Liu, 1981).
