Donor Awareness
This year, over 45,000 people will
be diagnosed with Leukemia,
cancer of the blood, in the
United States. Leukemia strikes
both young and old. Leukemia is
the most common deadly disease
in children. Fortunately, scien-
tists (My family before Leukemia)
have been able to improve treat-
ment options over the past thirty
years and survivorship rates are
now as high as 88% provided
they have a match.
That is where you come in.
There are nearly 13 million do-
nors on the stem cell/bone mar-
row registry in the United States
and Europe. However, it is still
hard to get a match. My wife’s
match came from Europe.
Volunteer
Each child and adult, desperately
need a match and if your sibling is
not your match, 30% chance, the
patient must fall back on generous
donors from the registry.
