Course Pre-requisite

This course is intended to introduce students to the diverse ways of conceptualizing,


assessing, studying, and treating personality. The concept of personality structure and
development will help in understanding the underlying reason for psychological disorder.

Course Description

The course aims to provide the students with basic understanding on the nature, cause and
possible interventions of psychological disorders. Also, to promote greater awareness and
knowledge of psychopathology to reduce suffering and stigma associated with mental
disorder.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, the student is expected to:


Be familiar with classifications of mental disorders.
Be able to explain the concepts of abnormality and abnormal behavior.
Be expose to actual cases of mental retardation through case studies or field trip in
mental institution.
