Use of Internet to Enhance English Teaching Learning

INTRODUCTION

In todays era of technology, technology has proved successful in replacing


the traditional teaching. By using technology, English teaching learning can be
more effective for English learners in which learning English. But Indonesia still
cannot improve the effectiveness of all educational services; even Indonesia has
developed the English curriculum in the decentralized system of education. It
happens because of the differences in the ease of children access to education.
Actually, technology will certainly help in easing them in remote area, but the
limited financial capacity has made it impossible to have equity in educational
access. But now, we should not face difficulties in accessing to education, because
the new technology called Internet had emerged as a prominent of technology.
In considerations of getting the goal of teaching and learning, we can
integrate both the cheap technology Internet and education method to enhance
the English teaching learning. So, we will face part of Internet such as websites;
software; online applications; etc. in order to find e-book, article, and others to
help us increasing the abilities of 4 English language skills and 3 components.
Therefore, in this paper I will explain how Internet is used to enhanced reading
skills in the classroom.
DICUSSION
The internet is a global network of computers that works much like the
postal system, only at sub-second speeds. It just as the postal services enables
people to send one other envelope containing message more often. Internet can
help people around the world finishing their work, such as pay the ticket to the
bank by using internet. They will not waste so much time in order to queue at the
bank. They just need 5 seconds while doing others.
As that example, when teaching the level of Junior High School; Senior
High School; and undergraduate students, the teacher may use Internet as the
contributor of teaching all the language skills to the students. But in this paper I
will show how Internet is used to enhance reading skill in the 2nd level of senior
high school by using report text as the material.

Firstly, the teacher gives greeting to the students at the beginning of the
class and ask the responses from the students what they will discuss about. Then
the teacher explains the generic structure and what the report text truly is. After
that, the teacher gives an example of report text and does analysis together with
the students to make the students can be understood well to the report text.
The fourth step is the mainly one when the technology is going to be used
for English teaching learning. The aimed of this step is to integrate the students
with the technology. But it will be a problem when no facilities in the classroom
such as personal computer or laptop, and so the technology one which is had by
every student in that class. But it can be tricked by making three big groups
consisting all of the students. For example 10 students in every group, so the
facilities can be fulfilled and the teaching learning can be continued. The next step
is an explaining of the task will be done by the students. The teacher tells students
to find 2 others of example about report text in the website by using internet and
give a recommended link to be used for searching the other examples of report
text, such as in (www.thejakartapost.com), and then they should read the text on
the website, re-report about the information of the texts; states the difficult words;
and understanding every sentences.
The following step is to evaluate what the students did and give some
correction. Dont forget to ask about question to make sure that they do it as the
result of their task. And for the last chance, the teacher should give an
achievement to the students who are successful in doing the task.
As in the procedure above, we know that technology Internet or the
others will not be used to develop the English teaching and learning. If no
facilities which is support the technology, the technology will be like a guitar with
no strings attached.
Internet is the main technology of connectivity among people in the world.
We can use Internet not only for developing English teaching learning, but also
for doing business, social-interaction, funny, etc. By using internet, we as the
freelance teacher too, may use the internet applications, such as e-mail, Skype,

YouTube, and others in order to make an efficiency of teaching and learning


process.
CONCLUSSION
To sum up, Internet has good advantages for English teaching learning,
because we can use it in the classroom to find some information in website or the
other digital information. The teachers can use internet to find so many references
in website to develop their personality in teaching, while the students may search
text, comic or story from the website to improve their reading skills. The use of
Internet is not only to improve reading skill, but also the other language skills and
English components itself. Even though internet gives good advantages, we
should be careful, when we take something from the internet. Because those
matter of written or speaking, are not always true.
