MyHIJAU Programme

SCP & Government


What is MyHIJAU Programme?
MyHIJAU Programme is one government initiative to support development of Green
Technology that was approved by the National Green Technology and Climate
Change Council (MTHPI) in 23 October 2012. This program was developed to
encourage local manufacturers, producers and suppliers to produce green products
and services which more competitive in local and global market.
The MyHIJAU Program is implemented by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology
and Water (KeTTHA) and the Malaysia Green Tech Corporation (MGTC).
Objectives of MyHIJAU Program are:

To coordinate and consolidate government initiatives in green products and


services development in Malaysia

To develop guidelines and procedures to the industries for producing green


products and services

To build capacity, skill and expert for competitive green production to the
industries

To increase awareness and knowledge to the public sector, private sector and
society in conserving environmental through Sustainable Consumption and
Production (SCP)

MyHIJAU Program uses the concept of sustainable development which it covers two
focus areas:a) Sustainable Production will focus on production of green products and
services including preventing pollution and clean production; and
b) Sustainable Consumption will focus on consumption of green products and
services including promotion and encouragement activities to buy and use
green products and services.
There are four (4) sub-programs in MyHIJAU Program:

2. MyHIJAU Directory
3. MyHIJAU Procurement
4. MyHIJAU Industry & SMEs

Sustainable Products

MyHIJAU Labeling
Introduction
Green labeling is one of environmental conservation instruments to identify the
environmental performance of a product or service based on the consideration of
environmental criteria and standards.
Through MyHIJAU Labeling, several action plans and activities are being planned to
establish one coordination system for monitoring green labeling schemes in
Malaysia. Among potential schemes under green labeling are:-

Introduction
MyHIJAU procurement is part of the government initiative towards the development
of green procurement in Malaysia especially in the implementation of Government
Green Procurement (GGP) and Green Private Purchasing (GpP). It covers promotion
activities, public awareness, knowledge, capacity building including training of
trainers, coaching and advisory services, development of guidelines, reviewing and
reporting performance.

Definition Green Procurement


Green procurement refers to the procurement activities of products, services and
works considering of environmental criteria and standard that conserve the natural
environment and resources, which minimizes and reduces the negative impact of
human activities.

How a product/service that is green?


Green products and services refer to the products and services considering of
environmental criteria and standard that conserve the natural environment and
resources, which minimizes and reduces the negative impact of human activities.
In summary, the product or service being classified among the green must have the
following characteristics:

energy efficiency

reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions

reduce the consumption of natural resources

reduce the content of hazardous and toxic

reduce ozone layer

reduce air and water pollution

use eco-friendly packaging

using renewable resources

made from sustainable or recycled materials

conserve natural forest

MyHIJAU Directory
Introduction
MyHIJAU Directory is a database that includes information on green products and
services in Malaysia. It is a virtual directory that provides information regarding
production and specifications of green products and services that are recognized by
the green labeling as well as being a reference to the purchase and consumers
seeking green products or services.
This directory aims to promote sustainable business and use green industry
Malaysia. Production can use this database as a place to promote their green
business.

SCP and SMEs (initiatives)


MYHIJAU Industry & SMEs
Introduction
MyHIJAU Industry and SMEs is one the main sub-programs under MyHIJAU program
aims to create more local industries and entrepreneurs that produce green products
and services. It will also support government's initiative and direction in the
development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) especially in National SME
Master Plan (2012-2020).
MyHIJAU Industry & SMEs will be implemented in phases;
Phases 1: Promotion and Awareness
- Organizing seminars, campaigns, conference, briefings, road show, forum,
exhibition and workshops.
Phases 2: Capacity Development
- Preparation of training modules, organizing training sessions for industry &
local industries including Training of Trainers and coaching sessions
Phases 3: certification
- Providing technical assistance, facilitating laboratory testing, green labeling
certification and listing in Malaysia Green Directory
Phases 4: Marketing
- Marketing expansion of local green products and services in domestic and
international trade as well as promotion activities such as advertising,
articles, exhibitions and publications
Phases 5: Business Matching
- Organizing meetings and business matching between industry and local
entrepreneurs with companies and agencies either within or outside the
country
- Encourage the involvement and participation from local industry and
entrepreneurs; and joint venture with the government and private sectors
