The Sanur Village Festival, is on again from August 12-16 this year. This will be the
fourth Sanur Village festival, and the people behind the festival’s conception assure that

CONTINENTAL MOTHER
Hanna Art Space presents ‘Continental Mother’, an exhibition by Keiji Ujiie, from
July 11 - 30. To initiate a new era of creative expression in Ubud has been a cherished
aspiration for International artiste, Keiji Ujiie. Born in Japan in 1951, the sculptor/
landscape Architect has successfully accumulated a 25 year body of artistic work to
his credit. Typically monumental, large scale works located over sweeping landscapes,
city building courtyards and public parks are home to some of his projects, covering
Japan, Mexico, Belgium, Lebanon and more recently in Sanur, Bali. ‘Continental
Mother’ is Keiji’s debut solo exhibition in Bali. Hanna Artspace in Ubud will exhibit 22
sculptures produced over the 2008-09 period. The concept of ‘Continental Mother’ is

Pranoto’s Art Gallery on Jalan Raya Ubud presents ‘At Home’ by the
husband and wife painters, Pranoto and Kerry Pendergrast, from July 5
- 27, featuring a range of their work over the last year. Their gallery has been
a centre of artistic activity in Ubud since 1996, with exhibitions, art lessons
and model sessions. Pranoto exhibits his textural acrylic pieces created in
these model sessions. Years of painting and drawing the model have brought
the artist a confident assurance in the human subject and a way to explore
the painterly concerns of colour, texture, composition, space and contour.
Kerry Pendergrast has had many exhibitions in recent years in Australia
and Indonesia, becoming well known for her on-site landscapes in pastel
on sandpaper. In this show, she displays a diversity of medium and subject

by mixed media artist NA Arnawa, through ‘Puppet Tales’ from
July 17 - August 15. Arnawa will display thirty (30) of his unique
artworks consisting mainly of puppet figures inspired by stories on
Ramayana and Mahabharata epics. Arnawa uses mixed media
including antique Bali fabric elements such as keling, cepuk,
geringsing and poleng as the background. Oil and Acrylic are also
used on his paintings; however he consistently introduces Balinese
cloth designs as the backdrop for his puppet figures. Arnawa
believes he has learnt many lessons of life from the ancient epics
and this is interpreted through his work. Arnawa’s earlier work
concentrated on traditional Balinese sceneries captured in colourful
oils and acrylics. An increasing interest in the ancient Hindu epic
tales of the Ramayana and Mahabharata inspired him to change
the focus of his art in late 1985.
