LUXURY OF EXISTANCE
InterContinental Bali Resort announces the completion of an
extensive renovation project on one of the resort’s Imperial Villas. After
having undergone an amazing transformation it takes the name ‘Jivana
Villa’. The name ‘Jivana’ is a Sanskrit word for ‘life or existence’. Jivana
Villa is secluded from mainstream resort activity and is mere footsteps
away from the white sands of Jimbaran Bay. It has its own private
access and paved driveway flanked by a modern interpretation of a
Candi Bentar. The main entrance into the villa is a splendid marble inlaid
walkway that crosses a pond and leads directly into a grand foyer. A
contemporary lounging pavilion provides a shady niche away from the
sun’s tropical rays where a replenishing spa ritual can be performed
amidst the garden’s serenity. The showpiece of Jivana Villa is the two-
storey Windsong Pavilion, accessed via a staircase as well as a timber
bridge that extends from the upstairs master suite over the width of the
swimming pool. This elevated pavilion, with its refreshing ocean views,
is an inspiring niche for relaxation and intimate dining. Jivana Villa is the
precious jewel in Club InterContinental’s accommodation crown under
the banner of Suite Collection. InterContinental Bali Resort

FESTIVE VILLAGE
The Sanur Village Festival, is on again from August 12-16 this year. This will be the
fourth Sanur Village festival, and the people behind the festival’s conception assure that
this year, the festival will be bigger and better. The theme ‘Marine Life’ will be the highlight
of the Sanur Village Festival 2009, which means most of the activities will be inspired from
the marine life which also exist as a very important element in Balinese life. Initiated by the
community of Sanur through the Sanur Development Foundation, at first Sanur Village
Festival was held to revive the tourism sector and to attract more tourists to visit this
area and the island of Bali. Famous for its tranquility, Sanur is the first tourist destination
in Bali and the only resort type tourist object owned by the Denpasar municipality. Since
the first celebration of the Sanur Village Festival, this event has been listed at Bali‘s event
calendar as one of the annual tourist attractions. Cultural activities will still dominate this
festival such as traditional performances, parade, music, collaboration show, water sports
and food festival as our main attraction, also not to forget our green program under water
festival with its coral reef plantation.

CONTINENTAL MOTHER
Hanna Art Space presents ‘Continental Mother’, an exhibition by Keiji Ujiie, from
July 11 - 30. To initiate a new era of creative expression in Ubud has been a cherished
aspiration for International artiste, Keiji Ujiie. Born in Japan in 1951, the sculptor/
landscape Architect has successfully accumulated a 25 year body of artistic work to
his credit. Typically monumental, large scale works located over sweeping landscapes,
city building courtyards and public parks are home to some of his projects, covering
Japan, Mexico, Belgium, Lebanon and more recently in Sanur, Bali. ‘Continental
Mother’ is Keiji’s debut solo exhibition in Bali. Hanna Artspace in Ubud will exhibit 22
sculptures produced over the 2008-09 period. The concept of ‘Continental Mother’ is
his expression of the Balinese landscape. Preferred indigenous materials of choice are

AT HOME...
Pranoto’s Art Gallery on Jalan Raya Ubud presents ‘At Home’ by the
husband and wife painters, Pranoto and Kerry Pendergrast, from July 5
- 27, featuring a range of their work over the last year. Their gallery has been
a centre of artistic activity in Ubud since 1996, with exhibitions, art lessons
and model sessions. Pranoto exhibits his textural acrylic pieces created in
these model sessions. Years of painting and drawing the model have brought
the artist a confident assurance in the human subject and a way to explore
the painterly concerns of colour, texture, composition, space and contour.
Kerry Pendergrast has had many exhibitions in recent years in Australia
and Indonesia, becoming well known for her on-site landscapes in pastel
on sandpaper. In this show, she displays a diversity of medium and subject
matter; landscapes in oil on canvas, and her work from the model sessions.

Griya Santrian Gallery
presents a solo exhibition by
artist Askanadi, titled ‘Works’,
featuring 12 of his paintings
and 6 of his sketches. The
exhibition will run through
July 30 at the Griya Santrian
Gallery in Sanur. Through his
artworks the artist takes the
viewers to contemplate, seek peace through simplicity. Lines
are the most basic forms that make up an image. Meanwhile
the most basic colors of all are white and black. By taking these
most basic elements, Askanadi produces vibrant works of art.
Under scrutiny, Askanadi’s paintings show a hint of red. To him,
red is like a life giving force. Askanadi has featured various solo
exhibitions since 2006, covering Berlin, Phnom Penh, Jakarta,
Yogyakarta, and to the current in Sanur, Bali this year.
