MailScan for Linux is a powerful Real-Time mail scanning Software for Mail Servers running on
Linux operating systems that offer's complete protection against Viruses, Worms, Trojans,
Spammers, Phishers and Other malware. It provides a comprehensive Security Solution for ecommunications at the Mail Gateway level.

How it works?
MailScan for Linux works on SMTP Port 25 and receives mails on behalf of the actual mail server.
It thoroughly scans all mails for malware and spam and subsequently quarantines or deletes
infected or spam mails. This ensures that MailScan protects the Mail Server in a proactive and
preventive manner.MailScan for Linux acts as a Content-Security and Anti-Virus Software for
your Corporate Mail Server. It scans and cleans e-mails.

Real-time Anti-Virus at the Mail Gateway
MailScan comes with the world's fastest and earliest updating Anti-Virus system that
detects Viruses, Worms, Trojans, Backdoors, Rootkits, Spywares, Adwares, Bots, Porn

Powerful Anti-Spam and Anti-Phishing
MailScan stops Spamming and Phishing using a combination of technologies like,
Gray Listing, Real-time Black List (RBL), SURBL, General Header Tests, MX/A DNS
Record Verification, Reverse DNS, X-Spam Rules Check and more.
Advanced Content Scanning Options
Content Control options allow you to specify restricted words or phrases in e-mails
that should be detected by MailScan. E-mails with such words anywhere in the
subject, body or tags can be deleted or quarantined.
Automated Threat Notifications
When a virus is detected in an e-mail or attachment, or when restricted words and
phrases are found in the mail content, the mail can be deleted, quarantined or
disinfected. MailScan provides you the option to send a customized notification to
the sender, the intended recipient or others, informing them about
Compression and Decompression
Oversized files are compressed using standard file compressors with options for
automatic decompression. MailScan can be configured to create 'EXE' files or selfextracting zip files that are automatically decompressed at the recipient's machine.

Comprehensive Reports
This feature provides a report of MailScan activity for a period. There are five tab
pages that provide reports about different MailScan tasks. The tabs are: Mails Sent
from Local Domains, Mail Details, Alt.
Self Diagnosis / Troubleshooting
When the software encounters any problem in functioning, 'Send Debug
Information' of eScan generates a file called 'debugs. zip'. eScan gives an option to
send that Self Analysis along with a small description of the problem keyed in by the
user to the MicroWorld support team, who identifies the cause of the issue and helps
resolve it.
Various Deployment Scenarios
Scenario I
MailScan for Linux Mailserver can act as a Mail Gateway (Mail Transport Agent MTA), wherein
MailServer is on a different system. All mails shall be scanned and passed through MailScan and
then forwarded to the MailServer located on a different system.

Scenario II
MailScan for Linux Mailserver is installed on the same system where a Mailserver is running.
MailScan will be running on Port 25 and the MailServer SMTP service should be made to run on
a different unused port eg. Port 26. Incoming mails will be accepted on port 25 & scanned by
MailScan and then forwarded to the MailServer SMTP port 26.

MailScan for Linux provides list of services that can be running or that have been shut down.
You can restart the services you want. MailScan for Linux has the Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus
engine. They should be always running.
In the screen, when a service is running, it is identified by a green flag. When a service is not
running, it is identified by a red flag. To restart a service, click on the single white arrow. To stop
a service, click the red square.

Settings
eScan allows you to specify Server Settings to schedule the download of updates for MWAV
for Linux and MWCAV for Linux. You can access these updates which are available as free
downloads on our mirror download.

Should have Web based administration console for management for configuration
and reporting

Mailscan for Linux administration console can be accessed using a web-browser, thus enabling
remote administration of the Mailscan.
To login to the Web-Administration from the web-browser:

MailScan will scan all incoming and outgoing mails on a real time basis for viruses and other
malwares, offensive contents and malicious attachments. MailScan uses content scanning for
detection of SPAM mails. It will restrict emails with certain words or phrases that are not useful
to an organization. Thus MailScan will scan for Viruses and content scanning and deliver the
mail to the Mail Server.

The number of mails that are identified as Spam or infected or banned is displayed in this field. To view the details,
click on the link showing the number of the respective category. Details of the infected mails, Spam Mails and
Banned Mails are displayed in popups. In the popup window, you can select the number of records per page. You
can filter the records according to email-ids and strings appearing in the columns Date, Arrival
Time, Subject,Reason etc. You can also view the mail content of individual mails by clicking on View in
the View column. You can delete the mail(s) by clicking on the checkbox and then by clicking Delete Selected.

Quarantine Infected Mails to:
When an infected mail is detected, you can quarantine it. The mail is encrypted and moved to a quarantine
folder.

Shows the path of the location, where mails should be quarantined Infected Mails to:
Send Notifications To Users
Check this option to send notification to users under following conditions:

When the number of mails in Quarantine exceeds the no. of mails given in the box.

Hostname/IP address in URL Enter Hostname or IP where this mail is to be sent
Send Virus Alerts To
When infected mails are detected, virus alerts can be sent to the mail sender, mail recipient or the mail
admin. The Email ID of the mail admin needs to be specified in the given text box.
Virus Alert to Sender
This editable box displays an alert template used to send alerts to mail senders, who have sent infected
mails. Modify the alert if needed.
Virus Alert to Admin
This editable box displays an alert template used to send alerts to administrator. Modify the alert if needed.

Attachment as compressed files and multi packed files must be extracted and scanned regardless of the
archive nesting depth - eScan can scan compressed files upto 40 level of depth.

This page allows you to configure anti virus settings. You can specify the white list domains and users that are
reputed to be secure against viruses. You can also specify files types that should be blocked from entering or
leaving your server. These file types are normally considered as virus carrier files. You can even use this feature to
stop confidential data from being mailed.
