Forum Script's About Child Abuse

Chairperson

Assalammualaikum,
Hello and good morning to our English teacher and all my friends.
I, (name) am your chairperson for today.
Nowadays, child abuse is one of the popular cases that always occur in our
society. In fact, this case needs to be given more attention so that it can be
lessen or we can even put an end to it. Before we go further, let me introduce
our panel members. Most of them are very knowledgeable and also
experienced in this matter that we will be discussing.
Without wasting our time, my first question to our first panel member, (Panel 1
name), can you tell us a little about the types child abuse?

Panel 1

Thank you, chairperson.

Although there are many formal and acceptable definitions of child abuse, the
following is offered as a guide for information on child abuse and neglect.
Child abuse consists of any act of commission or omission that endangers or
impairs a childs physical or emotional health and development. Child abuse
includes any damage done to a child which cannot be reasonably explained
and which is often represented by an injury or series of injuries appearing to
be non-accidental in nature. There are 4 types of child abuse, it is physical,
sexual, psychological and also neglect.
Firstly, physical abuse is any non-accidental injury to a child. Secondly, sexual
abuse is any sexual act between an adult and child. Thirdly, psychological
abuse is also referred to as emotional abuse or mental abuse. It is a form
of abuse characterized by a person subjecting or exposing another to
behaviour that may result in psychological trauma, including anxiety, chronic
depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder. Lastly, the most common type
of child abuse is neglect abuse. It is the failure to provide for a childs physical
needs. This includes lack of supervision, inappropriate housing or shelter,
inadequate provision of food and water, inappropriate clothing for season or
weather, abandonment, denial of medical care and inadequate hygiene.
Thank you, that all from me.

Chairperson

Thank you.
According to (Panel 1 name) ,we now know that there are 4 types of child
abuse.
My next question is to (Panel 2 name). What are the factors that can cause
child abuse? Can you explain further about this?

Panel 2

Thank you chair person.

Research has uncovered a number of risk factors or attributes commonly

associated with maltreatment. Children in families and environments where
these factors exist have a higher probability of experiencing maltreatment.

A greater understanding of risk factors can help professionals working with

children and families identify maltreatment and high-risk situations so they
can intervene appropriately. It must be emphasized, however, that while
certain factors often are present among families where maltreatment occurs,
this does not mean that the presence of these factors necessarily lead to child
abuse and neglect.
Common factors associated with increased risk of child maltreatment are
often categorized as follows:
Parent or caregiver factor

Child factor

Family factor

Community and environmental factor

Risk factors for recurrence of child abuse and neglect

Co-occurring risk factor

Thank you.

Chairperson

Thank you.

Panel 3

In order to solve the problem of child abuse. Im very sure that there is
something that we can do. What do you think are the solutions (Panel 3
name)?
Thank you chair person.
For the case of child abuse, the very first thing when we encounter this
problem is to report the case to the authority. Do not be afraid to speak up
and be brave to stand up for the child. If you allow this problem continues, it
will probably give a bigger impact to the poor child. The child might be
experiencing more severe injury or even death!
However, the effect that we fear most is the psychological impact to the child.
According to research and statistics, most victims from child abuse is also an
abuser when he or she grows up. This is because he or she would want to
take revenge and to avenge the anger that he had experienced during
childhood. Some might even evolved into a pathological killer or criminal that
takes satisfaction in other peoples pain and misery.
Realising the seriousness of this problem, everybody in this society should be
a concerned citizen who is very alert to their surroundings. If they see any
suspicious neighbour in the society, they should be reporting the problem
immediately without hesitation.

Chairperson

Thank you. So now we know that we must take immediate action towards

child abuse cases that happen around us.

So what about interacting with the victims of the family? Can (Panel 4 name)
enlighten us on this matter?
Panel 4

Yes, thank you.

The following are guidelines for interacting with the childs family:
Be objective and supportive. Remember that most parents want to be good
parents but may need additional help, encouragement and guidance.
Be an active listener. Do not blame, accuse or make judgments about family
members or their situations.
Offer your support in any way in which you feel comfortable. Families in these
situations can greatly benefit from social support, which could include
anything from babysitting to carpooling to just offering to listen.
Address the family in a manner that is consistent with your role or relationship
with the family. If you are an educator, be professional and objective. If you
are a friend, family member or neighbour, be friendly, helpful, supportive and
understanding.
Remember, families experiencing abuse or neglect issues are often under a
great deal of stress in multiple areas of their lives. Your interaction,
involvement or support can be an important stress reducer for the child and
for the parents.

Chairperson

Alright. So now we know all the information we need about child abuse. I
hope our audience will be benefited from this forum.
