INTRODUCTION
The Distinguished Chief Guest of the day, Honorable Chairman, Vice Chairman,
Advisor, Secretary, Members of the College Governing Council, awardees, Parents, Press
Personnels, invited guests, ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of Chandy College family; I
extend you all a very warm welcome to the College Annual Day 2013-14.
I am privileged to present the 5th Annual Report of Chandy College of Engineering.
Chandy College of Engineering, Mullakadu, Thoothukudi is chiseled by Pitchandi
Poornamalai Ammal Educational and Charitable Trust. With the resolution of imparting
education befitting the contemporary technical calling, pays special attention to impart
technical education to the socially, educationally and economically backward communities.
The college was established in September 2009 with the approval of AICTE and affiliated
to Anna University of Technology and now to Anna University, Chennai now. The College
was approved to conduct the following four UG courses: B.E., Computer Science and
Engineering, B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering, B.E. Electronics and
Communication Engineering,, B.E. Mechanical Engineering with the sanctioned intake of
60 each in 2009. During the past 4 years the college has introduced one more UG-B.E., Civil
Engineering, and three PG Courses as M.E., Applied Electronics, M.E., Power Systems
Engineering, and M.E., Computer Science and Engineering.
We are proud and privileged to introduce two distinguished personalities during
this academic year who took the key position as Dean /Admin & Dean/Academic.
Yes, they are none other than our Prof.K.Jeevanandham & Dr.V.BalaMurugan.

ADMISSION
Total intake is of 47 during 2009-10, 344 in 10-11, 946 during 11-12, and during 1314. I am proud to state, that the total Strength of our college is 1116, including both UG
and PG.

The Extracurricular activities day by Cumulative Association of Humanities and

Sciences, presided by our Honorable Chairman Thiru. P. Selvaraj on 19-10-2013.
A Vigilance Programme by Mr. Rajagopal NTPL Chief Administrative Officer .
Rotaract Club annual swearing ceremony was apprehended on 26th September
2012. P.D. Inbaraj, Assistant Governor, Zone VIII, felicitated the gathering. .
First year students visited SPIC Plant during the month of December.
Blood Donation Camp on 19th Feb 2013 in alliance with Primary Health Centre,
Tuticorin.
Induction Day was held on 29th July 2013.
Five faculty members of Humanities and sciences have participated in the WIPROMISSION 10X Programme from 21st October to 23rd October 2013.
An In house Empowerment Programme was organized by Mrs. G.Amala Jothi
Grace, Mrs. J. Jini Kamal Eastro, Ms. R. Subasree, to enhance the teaching learning
methodologies for the faculty of our college.

BOOKS AND JOURNALS PUBLISHED

Mrs. Jinikamal Eastro had published three books entitled Engineering Physics I ,
II and Physics Laboratory Manual I & II through CBA publishers

Mrs. G. Amala Jothi Grace, P. Authi Devi and Mr. M. Siva Kumar published four
Books titled Engineering Chemistry I, II, Environmental Science and
Engineering and Lab Manual.

Ms. R.Subasree published a paper entitled, On b- Closed sets in Topological

Spaces in International journal of Mathematical Archives, Volume 4, Issue 7, July
2013, pp 168-173.

Ms. R.Subasree has also published a paper entitled, On b- continuous Maps and
b Open maps in Topological Spaces in International journal of Engineering
Research and Technology Volume 2, Issue10, October 2013, pages 3443-3451.

Royden .T (I/Mech) had participated in the paper presentation conducted by SRM

University on 16-09-2013.

FUNDING PROPOSALS

Mrs. G. Amala Jothi Grace has submitted a research proposal to Tamil Nadu State
Council for Science and Technology on 10th October, 2013 for an amount of 5 Lacs.

Mrs.J.Valli, Assistant Professor participated in three day National Seminar on the

topic Ramanujan The Legend of Infinity from 14th to 16th February 2013 held at
St.Marys College of Arts & Science, Tuticorin.

P. Authi Devi and P. Anitha Devi in a seminar on 27th September 2012 titled
Innovative Journey towards conservation of Environment organized at IJCE.

DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The association of Mechanical Engineering was inaugurated on 4.10.12, by Mr. G.

Ajitha Prabhu and he delivered a guest lecture about Edge Cam Course.

Value added Certified Course on, New Product development in CNC machining,
was organized for 3 weeks by Mr Maniraj.

All India National Level Technical Symposium MechVaganza, was organized on

13-03-2013 and Mr. P. Siva Kumar delivered the lecture on placement.

Students of final year visted Apollo Tyres Industry , Kochin for two days.

An one day workshop was conducted in the area of Introduction of Robotics and
its Applications on 7th September 2013.

R. Raj Kamal won first prize in the Tamil elocution conducted by Kamaraj College
Tuticorin in the commemoration of 110th Kamaraj Birthday Day on 13.07.2012,
and first prize in the Tamil elocution conducted on National Safety, Science and
Productivity Day Celebration 2012 by HW Plant, Tuticorin.Fourth prize in
Bharathidasan poem receitation competition organized by Murasoli Charity Trust
on 18.5.2012.Also won first prize in the district tamil Elocution conducted at
kamaraj college, Tuticorin recently.

Final year students went for industrial visit to industries in radio astronomy and
Hindustan photo films, Ooty, III year to Blue apple Techlab, Ernakulam, Wonderla
substation-cochin and hydro power,plant-Papanasam and II year to thermal power
station, Thoothukudi.

Workshop was organized on PLC and SCADA (Industrial Automation) on

2.09.13 by Mr.Muneeswaran, Application Eng,Technocrat Automation Solutions
Pvt. Ltd, Chennai.

National Level Robotics Championship organized by Jayarajannapackiam C.S.I

M.K. Vinoth & D. VijayaRaj had won II prize in national level technical symposium
JETEL BLOOMS13 at Jeppiaar Engineering College, Chennai.

A. Packiastella won the first prize in Table Tennis held at SDAT District stadium,
Thoothukudi on 7, 9 and 11th October 2013.

M.K. Vinoth Won Ist place in National Level Karate Competition in National
Karate Federation, Chennai and he won Ist place - all rounder in National Level
Karate Competition in National Martial Arts Academy, Trivandrum, Kerala.

An In- House Workshop was arranged on Photoshop & Animation by the students
of Batch 2010-14 Maharaja, Aravind, Satheesh and Vignesh on 01-08-2013.

Real Time Car Anti theft system using GSM and GPS technology organized at

P.A Sathish Kumar, was awarded BEST Student in International Conference

(ICCA12) organized at Jipmer University, Pondicherry.

Students of CSE participated in Multimedia competition, hardware assembling, web

designing and in Technical Quiz in various colleges.

Balamurugan & Jeyaram got first prize in Web Designing, G. Maharaja, C. Ramesh
Student of received Second prize and Jeyaram.K, M. Malik Meeran got third prize
in Multimedia competition organized at Kalasalingam University on October 2012.

Our Library is empowered with 1391 new books during 12-13 and 761 new books in 13-14

with SPSS Packages organised at MS University, Library and in a National
Conference on 28.3.13 titled Information Literacy Skills in Digital learning and
Collection development Policy on the Digital Era organised at Sri. Saradas College

Sessions on Employability, Model Aptitude tests, Mock Group discussions & Interviews to
excel in the Recruitment process, Guidance sessions for higher studies like , GRE, CAT,
GATE, RRB.

An one day orientation for Final & Pre-final years on Recent Job Trends by Mr.Srinivasan,
MD, NIIT Centre, Tuticorin on 18th January 2012.

Mr. Ambalavanan, MD, Surge Forth Technologies with CII, addressed the final year and Prefinal year students about INNOVATOR 2012 and EMPLOYABILITY BRIDGE on 12th
October 2012.

CMC Academy (A Tata Enterprise) conducted a pre assessment for the final and pre final
years on 6th September 2013.

Wheebox in association with CII conducted an Online Employability Skill test for the Final
students on 17th September 2013.

An Eight Day Empowerment on Perceptual orientation for career success was

conducted for the final and pre final year students by SEED, Chennai between 23rd to
30th September 2013.

A One day workshop to Faculty on Perceptual Orientation by Dr .Rajeev

Sukumaran, Director-Learning Research, SEED on 15th October.

Engagement of Wipro Mission 10 X Programme for faculty by Dr.SREECHARAN,

OFF CAMPUS DRIVE

2013 passed out students attended an placement programme organized by Anna

university, Chennai on 8th and 9th January 2013.(Cognizant Technology solutions)
held at PSNA college of engineering, Dindigul and an monthly placement event
organized by Surge Forth Technologies at different locations in and around Tamil
nadu.

2013 passed out students attended an Off Campus drive Organized by Renganayagi
Varatharaj College of Engineering on 16th and 17th march 2013 & TMSSS on 25th
January 2013.
An Off Campus Interview for 2013 passing out Mechanical students was organized by

the college Placement Cell at Kriatec services between 20th March to 16th April 2013 &
by the Placement Cell at Tata Consultancy Services ION, Karapakkam Office, Chennai on
23rd October 2013.

ON CAMPUS DRIVE

An On Campus drive for 2013 passing out students was organized by the college Placement
Cell by inviting four tier 2 level companies and with agsar paints on 9th April 2013.

2 ECE students in TCS , 11 Mech students in Precision Engineering ,Chennai,2 mechanical 9

CSE & 10 ECE students in Polaris tech support and 21 from EEE and 5 from ECE were placed
in previous year batch.

Intercollegiate competition at Dr. Sivanthi Aditanar physical Education on 21-092013.

M. Meena(I/ECE) is the winner of Zone- 18th table tennis match organized by Anna
University, Tirunelveli on 22-09-2013. She was selected to the Inter-zone table
tennis at Vellore on 24-09-2013.

J. Saravana Kumar (I/ECE) had participated in the Anna University cricket match
organized by Sankar polytechnic , Tirunelveli on 28-09-2013.

M. Shunmuga Kumar, M. Sethuraman and A. Murugavel (Mech) won in cricket 4th

prize organized at SPIC Nagar.

A.Anish (Mech) won 1st prize in shuttle cock organized at Chennai

CONCLUSION
Educate To Elevate & Enrich To Excell
CCE is excelling day by day in terms of Quality teaching-learning process, high
satisfaction level and extraordinary productivity.
Modern Techniques, best industry practices are adapted to ensure the optimum
outcome. Today, we have many committees such as course committee , class committee ,
pay committee , disciplinary committee, ISO committee etc., which have well defined
objectives and functioning well to reach our expected outcomes.
As our age is 5, we are in the process of getting accreditation such as NBA, NAAC
etc., Our aim is to get ABET accreditation by 2020. Prior to that we aim for NBA by 2016
and NAAC by 2018.
On behalf of the staff and students and on my own behalf, my prayers to the
almighty for showering his blessings on us throughout. I thank the Management for the
continuous and total support given by them and their keen interest in the day-to-day
activities.
I thank the faculty, and supporting staff for their co-operation and I seek their
continued support in the future. Let us all strive and work together to build up this
Institution into a model Engineering College of repute.
