B eing a mum to an active 3-year-old daughter is tough
enough, but even more troublesome when dining out with
her. Whenever I take her out to a café or restaurant, she will
start messing around — tapping loudly with chopsticks or a
spoon, spilling her drinks, just about anything outrageous,
just name it, she’s got it all — but why? Simply because she
doesn’t like how the food tasted and she feels boring with
nothing else to play with, but cutlery. Most parents would
have faced the same situation like I did; perhaps the only
difference is the degree of creativity of how they amuse
themselves, while the parents are being tested for their
patience. If you are one of them, fret no more!

Caterpillar is a children-friendly café located on the second
floor of a three-storey shop-house in Sri Hartamas. It has a
tranquil ambience, filled by soft-lightings and
walls shaded with light, milky yellow, pink,
and a light touch of sky blue that makes you
feel so relaxing and comfortable. Also, there’s
a spacious activity studio adjoining to the café

 Chicken Run Nuggets Home-made cookies
in the foods and beverages are from natural sources, and are
specially selected. I personally enjoyed the Goulash most; a
platter filled with tenderly cooked beef marinated in home-
made sauce, decorated with mash potatoes with a unique
dip of Rødkal (in Danish) or red cabbage, only the top quality
beef with tender textures are chosen for this dish. Even the
red cabbage is manually chopped (not blended with
machines) to give it an extra authentic touch.
Parents often face difficulties in choosing the right food for
their children — bearing in mind the nutrition as well as the
less spicy factors — from the menu. Caterpillar has the
solution for you. There are a variety of kids specialties
offered here — they not only taste good but creatively named
too. For instance, Batman Burgers (I bet it catches your child’s
attention) are homemade burgers with fresh shitake
mushrooms. The key is in the ratio of meat used to the
binding factor, in this case, the bread. Too much bread would
make the burgers lose their meaty flavour. Although cost is
also a factor, Caterpillar believes in giving their customers
quality food, thus, not compromising on taste.
Another kid specialty that I would recommend is the Chicken
Run Nuggets, escorted by fresh carrot and peas. These
home-made nuggets are crunchy on the outside, but soft and
juicy inside. The chicken is minced manually and the
nuggets are hand-breaded to ensure their quality meet their
customer’s expectation. If your child doesn’t like chicken —
fine, how about Lilo & Stitch Fish Finger? Dory fish fillet,
double-coated with batter made from a simple mix of bread
crumbs and flour to ensure the fish remains soft and juicy
inside, while the exterior remains crispy — that’s Lilo & Stitch
Fish Finger.
The Madagascar Spaghetti is another mouth-watering dish.
You can also opt for the regular Spaghetti Bolognese or the
vegetarian version, Spaghetti with Creamy Tomato Sauce.
Both sauces are stewed for at least one and a half hours to
enhance its taste, and then served with freshly grated
Parmesan Cheese. For children who prefer something light,
perhaps during tea time or so, Swim with the Sharks will be
the perfect choice. It is made from fresh vegetables and not

and their children of all ages. Now mummies can burn away
extra calories in Fitness for Moms and dance classes such as
the belly dancing, Sizzle and Burn, Flamenco and Rhythm
Tap, without worrying about their children, as their children
can have fun with arts and crafts, dancing, learning
languages, and reading, even learn to bake cookies! Mums
or dads can also accompany their children in Baby Fun class
(for all babies) where they sing nursery rhymes, dance with
easy and repetitive movements. While older toddlers can sing
and dance in the Orff Schulwerk of similar features to Baby
Fun, divided into two age groups; those aged three to four in
one group, and four to six in another. Caterpillar also offers a
wide range of music (guitar and percussion) and dance
lessons (Funky Hip Hop) for children aged six to17.
Mums can now enjoy their drinks and chit chat with their
friends peacefully without interruption from their toddlers,
as Caterpillar provides Crèche Service, a supervisory free play
and care service, where children can play with toys and each
other, for only RM10.00 an hour per child. If Sri Hartamas is
