HTA ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB EVENTS
FRIDAY 4/16/20

PRINGLES CHALLENGE
There will be a meeting for all middle school and high school students interested in participating in
the Pringles Challenge at 3:00 on Monday, April 19 in Clasroom 3. The objective of the Pringles
Challenge is to design and test a package to safely ship a single Pringles Potato Chip through the
US Postal Service to another school. We will be partnering with a school in Vermont. The goal is
to engineer a package to have the smallest mass and volume, while protecting the chip so it
arrives at its destination undamaged. Please come to class prepared with any boxes/packaging
materials that you think will help you to achieve this goal.

EARTH DAY POSTER CONTEST

Earth Day is coming up on Thursday, April 22. To promote awareness and encourage participation
in Earth Day 2010, the HTA Environmental Club will be sponsoring the 2nd Annual Earth Day
Poster Challenge. The contest is open to all HTA students. Prizes will be awarded to the top
entries in K-5, 6-8, and high school divisions.

To participate in the contest, students will select an environmental problem or issue affecting
todayʼs society and create a poster that contains a picture, drawing, or image related to the issue
and a slogan that promotes awareness or helps to minimize human impact on the problem/issue.
There will be two separate categories for hand drawn and computer generated posters.
Submissions for the contest can be turned in to Mr. Gasda at the learning center by Wednesday,
April 21.

WAIMEA VALLEY FIELD TRIP

Wednesday, April 21 from 9:00-1:00
Join us on an outing to Waimea Valley. Students will learn about the Hawaiian ahupuaʼa system
and resource management, native Hawaiian plants and their cultural uses, and endangered
species living in the valley. In addition, we will be doing volunteer work with the caretakers of
Waimea Valley. Work may include garden, nursery, and trail maintenance, pond and stream
clearing, and/or invasive species removal. These events are open to all middle and high school
students.

Please stop in to Mr. Gasda's Elluminate room if you have any questions regarding any of these
events.
