Worthy Presidents Message

Greeting Aerie Brothers and Auxiliary Sisters,
I write this letter to you with a great deal of sadness. As well as with a great deal of pride and humility. My wife was
diagnosed with breast cancer (small b, small c) in January. We have spent the last month meeting with doctors, nurses,
study associates and the like. Claire began treatment in earnest on the 17th of February. This is my sadness. BUT Claire
is taking it like a champ.
My pride and humility comes from all of you. Eagles. Man/woman, Aerie or Auxiliary. No matter. The support I feel
from you is incredible. I LOVE it when you check in on my family. I love it when you ask about Claire. I love it when
you ask about the kids. I thank you all a great deal for your thoughts, prayers, concerns and well wishes.
In dealing with this issue and the ups and downs that it comes with, I have had ample time to reflect on all aspects of my
life. Our club figures greatly into my life. I wish I had more time in my day to dedicate to it. I need to create time in my
schedule to do so. But I try most earnestly to live my life with the ideals we ALL obliged to follow when we initiated
in this club - and into the Fraternal Order of Eagles. One area I tend to focus on is If I Can Not Speak Well Of An Eagle, I Will Not Speak Ill Of Him There is great texture to that phrase, to that Obligation we all made. It should transfer
into our day to day lives. Into the very fabric of our society. As a father with 2 young children making their way in
school, in friendships and yes, even in drama, I encourage them to never say anything bad about anybody. It causes too
much internal distress not to mention the effect on the people around you. In short, it does no good. Ever.
Brothers and sisters. We may not always appreciate our fellow Eagles. We may not choose to associate with them outside of our club. But when we are in our club, we are in our sanctuary. Of likeminded individuals, and we all deserve to
be treated in the way our ideals proscribe. If I Can Not Speak Well Of An Eagle, I Will Not Speak Ill Of Him. Let your
minds rest upon that statement.
We are an organization open to change and modification. But we, as officers and trustees, can not force change. We
have methods of enacting change and airing of grievances. My first suggestion to you, if such airing needs to be made is
to remember your initiation. If something is bothering you, go to that person. Short of that come to a meeting and speak
to the officers. If you arent comfortable with that, come to an officer personally and speak your mind. Finally, write a
letter to the trustees (remember it must be signed or it will go into the trash).
Ladies and gentlemen, I know this club means a great deal to you, as it does to me. Let it continue to be a sanctuary from
the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. We ALL signed on to be a part of something better. Something different. Let us
not forget that. And let us not forget our (voluntary) obligations and our pledges to OUR club, and by right, its members.
Please utilize your membership. Become involved. The search for 2016-2017 officers is ON. If you have an interest in
the direction of the club, state of the club, membership, or are looking to pitch in, come on up to the meeting hall on the
1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 7:30.
Fraternally yours,
Zane Fitterer
Worthy President

Madam Presidents Message

February was a busy month full of activities and projects around the club.
Special thanks to Michelle Murillo-Renn and Paul Leonardo for chairing, and Shirley Stubben and Yvonne Davalos,
along with Carmen and Robert (the Nibbles owners), who assisted in cleaning and organizing the kitchen supply
room. It was a great feat and it looks wonderful. There is now direct access for our volunteers and Nibbles (to whom
we rent space) to easily access supplies when needed.
Also special thanks to Mary Lou Wilkerson and Barbara Hulslander for clearing out the upstairs room so it was presentable for use by the Aerie during the District 5 meeting held 2/21.
We belong to what I believe is one of the greatest organizations in the world: Fraternal Order of Eagles where our
motto is People Helping People. This includes not only those in the community, but also our own members. With that
being said, we also need to remember our internal code of conduct: If I cant speak well of an Eagle, I wont speak ill
of him. This is important to our fraternity and we need to always adhere to it. If you hear someone not following this,
we need to remind him/her in a kind way, that it doesnt look well to those observing, and also undermines the atmosphere we want to have in our club.
As always, we need to work together for the good of our organization. Without TEAMWORK, nothing can get done.
For dates and details of upcoming event, please check the calendar included with the newsletter. You can also get information about our club at our website: westseattleeagles.org or by friending us on Facebook at West Seattle Eagles.
Please join your fellow Auxiliary sisters at our meetings held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays at 7:00 pm, and be a part of
our organization. We would love to have you attend! Please note that the March 17th meeting has been rescheduled to
March 24th. This change is so Aerie brothers can prepare and serve a St. Patricks dinner that night. Yummy!
Sisters, if any of you would be interested in being an Auxiliary officer next year, you are encouraged to contact me for
further information.
Yours in Sisterhood,
Diane Bals
Madam President

The Auxiliary is again selling hanging baskets shipped directly from the greenhouses of DeGoede Brothers
(Windmill Gardens) in Sumner. This year, we will only be selling the mixed garden baskets, as the fuchsia baskets
are unavailable from the greenhouse. The baskets are selling for $35 each or $60 for two. They are of premium
quality and will grow to an impressive size if given a little love and water. You can order baskets in the lounge or
by contacting any Auxiliary Officer. Baskets will be delivered to the club the first week of June. Please support the
Auxiliary and their charitable efforts by ordering a beautiful hanging basket, or ten, today. Deadline: May 5th.
