Functional Breakdown
Amplify the signal so that it can be detected from all over the room.
Interface the external circuit with the microphones and DAQbox.
Find an equation to find the (x,y) location and angle of the click.
Use continuous processing to pick up and identify the clicking sound.
Find the optimal microphone placement to identify click location.
Output the information in a user friendly/readable manner.

Design Approach
Determine the location and angle of a click.
Create an equation taking into account three microphones.
Start with hyperbolic tangent equations and work from there to not rely on tangents.
Create an amplifying circuit and transfer data to the program using the analog inputs of the DAQ box.
Create a lookout, or data manager, program to monitor the data for a click.
Once the click is detected, have a separate program process the data and output the location and angle.

Design Constraints
1. The click can occur in any accessible space in the room.
2. Assume that the room will be as quiet as possible during testing so the click will be audible.
3. Only three microphones are to be used.
Timelines
3/8/16 - The microphone position will be definitevely determined utilizing the mathematical research
completed This will allow for the amplifying circuit to be tested.
3/18/16 - The amplifying circuit will be acceptably assembled so that the programs can be tested using real
data
3/22/16 - Both MatLab programs will be completed and debugged
3/25/16 - Both MatLab programs will be successfully integrated with each other, and all hardware
components.
3/27/16 - The report document and presentation will be completed and editted
3/28/16 - Report and Presentation powerpoint due
3/29/16 - Final due date

Individual Roles & Responsibilities

Bhargavi will work on the data manager program to implement continuous detection and processing of data.
Catherine will work on the data processing program that will interpret the data that is taken in by the data
manager program.
Maomao will extensively research the mathematics behind the signal propagation which will allow him to
determine the optimal position to place the three microphones.
Rolonzo will be responsible for creating the external amplifying circuit and for all hardware connections to the
Data Acquisition Box. In addition to being responsible for hardware components and connections, Rolonzo will
also be the facilitator for the entire span of the project.
Decisions will aim to be decided via unanimous decisions, however, if a unanimous decision cannot be agreed
upon, the group member responsible for that specific portion of the project will have the final say
