Monel 400 (UNS N04400) is made in the different standards such as
ASTM B164 QQ-N-281 din 17750, ASTM B127 QQ-N-281, ASTM B127 QQ-N-281, ASTM B165, ASTM B564, FM 60/ERNiCu-7/17753, FM 190 ENiCu-7 and Din 2.4360. Monel alloy 400 has good ductility and heat conductivity. The chemical composition of Monel 400 is Nickel- 63%, Copper 28 to 34%, Iron 2.5%, Manganese 2%, silicon 0.50%, Al 2.7%, Sulfur 0.010 0.024%, Titanium 0.5%. Alloy 400 can be tempered or cold processed to enhance its characteristics, it is delivered in an annealed condition. The alloy is used in marine engineering, chemical and hydrocarbon processing systems and others. In an annealed condition, alloy 400 can be easily formed and fabricated without the additional need of heat processing. Alloy 400 is also ASME approved for construction applications. It is highly weldable The physical properties of Monel 400 are: Density 88.3 kg/m, magnetic permeability at 20oC- shows magnetism as its curie temperature is near the room temperature, youngs modulus 179 x 10(3) N/mm2, specific heat capacity- 419 J/kg.K at 20oC, specific electrical resistance at 20oC- 0.51, thermal conductivity 21.8 W/m/K at 20oC, mean coefficient of thermal expansion 14.1 x 10(-6) /K at 20 to 100oC. Monel grades- alloy 400 and alloy K500 are considered as universal alloys for providing suitable performance in almost all types of corrosive media that is found in the diverse industries. Monel wire mesh can be used to filter the various kinds of corrosive liquids and gases at the different temperatures. The alloy has high strength that it retains its shape for the longer period and can handle the application stress effectively. Applications of Monel 400 Monel 400 grade finds extensive applications in marine, oil and chemical processing industries. Its applications include crude petroleum stills, gasoline and fresh water tanks, marine fasteners, and chemical processing apparatus. The corrosion resistant nickel is an economical and easily processing metal, it is commonly used in the conditions where marine water, petroleum or de-aerated acids come into contact with equipment. When a material of equipment requires withstanding internal or
external corrosives, Monel is a recommended metal for the boiler
feed water heaters and heat exchangers. Monel 400 is specialty steel that is offered in the diverse shapes and sizes in the pre-cut and custom forged. It has good strength and high durability in the natural and chemical corrosives, Monel 400 is also affordable nickel and can be easily worked. Monel alloy 400 made in the different forms such as pipe, plate, sheet, wire and various other forms. Monel alloy 400 is utilized in the diverse industrial sectors such as marine, chemical and hydrocarbon processing devices, valves, shafts, fasteners and heat exchangers. Alloy 400 is for its high strength and corrosion resistance characteristics. It is suitable for use in the diverse temperatures and is commonly used as piping. It is resistant to steam and seawater. Good toughness and anticorrosive characteristics make it suitable for the heavy-duty applications for example transfer pipes in the oil refineries.
