ABSTRACT

In this present era of technology, we all know that how smartphones are useful for each
and every action of us. And also we have been using that from pillar to post in our day to day
activities. SailFish is a massive and extra ordinary Operating system for mobiles which has been
developed by former Nokia employees involved in MeeGo development, announced their work
on a new operating system called Sailfish OS.
Sailfish is a Linux-based mobile operating system developed by Jolla in cooperation with
the Mer (It is a free and open-source software distribution, targeted at hardware vendors to serve
as a middleware for Linux-based mobile-oriented operating systems) project and supported by
the Sailfish Alliance. It is used in smartphones developed by Jolla and other licencees.
Comparing SailFish with other OS like android, IOS and etc, has most common
interfaces which are developed in the Linux based Open Source Operating system. But the
SailFish version of Operating system provides you wide range of optimized content for your
mobile and also it has more stability, flexibility with ubiquity. SailFish has an ability to run over
various ranges of devices with various hardware features. In SailFish Operating system, you can
run and install Android applications; and you can install thousands of applications from Google
Play Store. SailFish built with the help of technology termed as Meego (It is a Linuxbased free mobile operating system project), and it ensures different core functionalities such as
device connectivity, power management and so on.
SailFish interface allows you to work in the interface with fast and more flexibility;
SailFish operating system core is derived from Mer Project, which allows the users to use third
party applications on the SailFish devices.

Hardware: Linux kernel is required by the SailFish operating system in order to Run.
Kernel: Hybris support various drivers and other features for the SailFish.
Mer: Offers various features such as Power management, Connectivity and

Communication for the devices and also support Device Management.

User Interface and Middleware: Provides Unique and brilliant Interface structure
which allows the users to experience a new range of Interface Customization, and So on.
