As a SDS/PACU registered nurse III preoperative information was provided and obtained. And in doing
so, thoroughly reviewed patients health history and custody status with parents, legal aged patients, legal
guardian(s), foster parents and state/private case workers prior to any surgery scheduled. In addition, provided
post-surgical education upon admission to the pre-operative unit to parents/patient. As well as, after the
surgical procedure while in the PACU Phase II recovery unit. Collaborated with anesthesia services when a
patients disease process warranted re-evaluation, in determining, if the patient was a suitable surgical
candidate for CMS versus CMH. Utilized nursing practice of airway and pain management in the PACU/phase II
PACU recovery for children of all ages, while being mindful of each childs cognitive, physical and emotional
development. Developed staff educational material, aiding in the recognition, of the dangers of improper
dosage and uses of anesthetic medications, including inhalations. Actively participated in the unit based
education committee. C0-created the annual code blue drill and evaluated other patient care skills/scenarios.
