Political

The much-debated lobbying act (passed in May 2014)


introduced restrictions on the way not for profit/ third parties
or can campaign for a cause particularly leading up to an
election. The act limits non-party campaigners spending on
regulated campaigning activities lower than last election
year from September 2014 to polling day may 2015.
Organizations can be fined up to 20,000 for breaching the
rules.
Social Economy Alliance has launched its campaign for a
social economy. Seventy ideas have been put forward in their
manifesto, one of which is relief for start-ups to get off the
ground.
The Labour partys policies on campaigning, volunteering
and lobbying say, if voted in to power, they promise to lift
restrictions on the non-party campaigners freedom of speech
by revoking the lobbying act. They also want to increase the
amount of people that volunteer by continuing to support the
national campaign Step Up and Serve to a boarder
curriculum to allow young people to volunteer from an early
age. They will also introduce Kite Mark for/that encourages
businesses to give their staff time off to volunteer.

Economic

UKs economy is on a steady track to recovery from the


recession.
The consumer price index (CPI) falls to 0.3 % and is
estimated to drop further.
The unemployment rate falls to a 5.7 % in the three months
leading to December 2014, a record low in six years.
Youth 16- 24 unemployment stats: 740,000 unemployed in
October to December 2014.
An average of 1.8% cuts to local councils spending power in
2015-16 (Announced in December 2014).

The UK's national volunteer database Do-it Connect' will
develop technology to allow organizations to search for
volunteers and to enable integration with social media
platforms to increase volunteering.

Legal

Social enterprises are not exempt from paying tax.


At least 50% of revenue must be from commercial trading
income.
Any surplus must be re-invested to support the social cause.
Data protection act: extra measures must be taken to
safeguard donors, users, key partners and volunteers data.
