Matthew 25: 35-40

35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me
something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you
clothed me, I was ill and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
27Then the righteous will answer him, Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you,
or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite
you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you ill or in prison and go
visit you?
40The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these
brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
To take the Gospel as the motivation to act is to ask constantly: What would Christ do
in this situation and under these circumstances? How will you respond to this question
in your life as a young Catholic?
Service for others is one of the missions Christ has given to us. We all have roles
to fulfil and one of these is to help our least brothers and sisters who are in union with
God. As young Catholics, we do believe that despite our age, we can do something to
gradually accomplish the task entrusted to us.
Before serving others, we must first seek the truth behind what is happening in
our society. Through the eyes of faith, we will grasp the reality without any mix of worldly
insincere intentions but pure eternal hope of giving them a chance to see it as a better
place. All it takes are justice and hope. Justice is something that will reign in our hearts
that no matter how harsh and unjust the world will become, justice will prevail in Gods
time through fairness and equality among people. Despite all the injustices in our world
today, we can still make a move in shifting it and become part of the change we all want
to see. Also, hope is what keeps us going. Regardless of all the problems we are facing,
we can still survive each new day because of the hope burning in our hearts. These are
the things which will soon be our guide in making a transformation in our world, from a
harsh society to a peaceful and fair one.
As young Catholics and Lasallians, we believe in Faith, Service and Communion
and this reliance we have is our motivation to believe in the promise of God, to serve
others sincerely and be in communion with our other brothers and sisters in Christ.
Through our faith, we can feel the loving presence of God in everything that we do in
which we must pay back all the blessings we received by means of service to others.
Service to others is our little way to be the symbol of love of God to other least children
of our Almighty. Communion will be our means to interact and make fellowship with
those who believe in the power and love of Christ, our Redeemer.

Giving emphasis on service, simple things like sharing a piece of bread to a

beggar and sparing some time to be involved in an outreach means a lot. Service
doesnt count on how much youve given but the sincerity of the heart in giving. A cent is
not too little for someone who genuinely gives without expecting something in return.
We may think that service is only for those influential people giving relief goods to those
people stuck by calamities, but no, money and other material things are not the basis of
true service. It is the gift of time and serving others is not a waste of time rather it is gift
from God. This means that we have more time in giving and emptying ourselves for the
sake of our least brothers and sisters in Christ who strive to survive each new day with
the hope of having a brighter future.
With the help and guidance from God, we, young Catholics, can do more and be
more by being of service to others. Giving is not being less but being more because we
share ourselves with Christ in the presence of our fellow Christians who are suffering
due to injustices and different circumstances. We must never forget the real meaning of
service and that is being with the poor in times of struggle and difficulties. Service is not
just simply defined by giving or sharing but service is our ultimate way to be in union
with Christ and being with Christ in the eyes of our least brothers and sisters. We may
not have everything in the world to share but our genuine hearts and little time could be
our precious gifts to the poor.
