Please note that a mesh of overhead Lightning Protection Shield Wires and Lightning Rods are installed on the Lightning Masts on Top of the Substations (Gantry) Frames Columns. These Shield wires and
Lightning Rods need to be earthed with a direct connection to the buried Earthing Grid of the Switchyard. Therefore, one leg of Each Column must have a Copper Grounding Conductor with one end connected to
the Overhead Shield Wire and Lightning Rod using a bimetallic connector and the other end connected to the Earthing Grid by CADWELD. (Typical for all the Gantry Steel Columns)
Contractor to follow the following Contract (Volume 2D, Part D) Clauses:
Clause 11.3.3 - "The Contractor Shall Provide ---- Drawings showing the overhead earth conductor system for the 525kV Switchyard. The drawings shall also comprise information about the connection between
overhead and underground system."
Clause 11.4.3 - " Each item shall be directly connected to an earthing conductor and not with a series connection through other metallic parts"
