Comments Directed to Collier County Health Department

To Stephanie Vick, MS, BSN, RN

Administrator, Collier County Health Department
Regarding the fluoridation of the Collier County water supply, Public Information Officer
Jennifer Gomez recently stated Throughout more that 70 years of research, the overwhelming
evidence is that fluoridation is safe and effective in both children and adults.
Her comments mirror those of Johnny Johnson, DDS, the Florida Department of Health, the
Oral Health Division of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Dental
Associations publication Fluoridation Facts. How can anyone doubt those authorities you ask?
Review the minutes of this 1951 Conference to see who the strategists were and what their
strategy was. As Administrator of the Collier County Health Department, do you support
deliberate deception and dismissal of toxicity as outlined by early promoters of fluoridation?
As part of a health department whose motto includes We work to promote and protect the
health of our community, I ask that you give careful consideration to the following.
In contrast to what Dr. Johnson would have you believe (as stated in the last paragraph of his
Fluoridation Monograph), people speak against fluoridation because they do not want
uncontrolled systemic exposure to fluoride and they have a desire for pure drinking water.
If you sincerely wish to protect the health of your community, study these Questions for
Johnny Johnson, DDS that have been assembled to help him, and others, focus on the issue.
The following two MDs and two dentists have made important science based contributions.
Please learn from them.
Richard Foulkes, MD, has an insightful and authoritative story to tell, plus he responded to the
conclusions made about the 50 year Newburg/Kingston fluoridation study that the ADAs
Fluoridation Facts falsely claims showed a 70% reduction of tooth decay in fluoridated Kingston.
Tennessee State Senator Joey Hensley, MD, eloquently explains why, as a Representative, he
recommended water districts in Tennessee no longer add fluoride to drinking water supplies.
Hardy Limeback, PhD, DDS, a professor with a PhD in Biochemistry and a practicing dentist
outlines his arguments that fluoridation is an ineffective and harmful public health policy.
Cosmetic Dentist, Bill Osmunson, DDS, MPH, told the British Medical Journal that after 25 years
of promoting fluoridation, looking at the current literature was like a knee in the gut.

The foregoing doctors and dentists obtained their information through diligent research
including referring to the works of scientists such as Virginia Department of Health Toxicologist
Brian A. Dementi, PhD, Risk Assessment Specialist Kathleen M. Thiessen, PhD, Neurotoxicologist
Phyllis Mullenix, PhD, EPA Scientist William Hirzy, PhD and Chemist Paul Connett, PhD.
The above scientists documentation of the toxicity and harm done by the practice of water
fluoridation stands in stark contrast to the information provided by Michael W. Easley, DDS,
MPH, in his Florida Journal of Environmental Health article titled Perspectives on the Science
Supporting Floridas Public Health Policy for Community Water Fluoridation. Misinformation
such as that on pages 2 and 4 under the headings Systemic Sources of Fluoride and Is the
Amount of Fluoride in Fluoridated Water Systems Safe? was used as reference material by the
Florida Department of Health when writing their Policy Statement on Community Water
Fluoridation. The Collier County Health Department, the people of Collier County and the
citizens of the State of Florida need to demand that the Florida Department of Health use
appropriate scientific references when considering the subject of water fluoridation.
Instead of the ADA and the Oral Health Division of the CDC, it would be more appropriate for
the Florida Department of Health to consult toxicologists, risk assessment specialists,
chemists, informed dental and medical professionals and other related scientists.
The Florida Department of Health is not protecting the health of the community when they do
not inform the public of the following:
*Distribution of a drug via the water supply is not a sound pharmacological practice.
*Fluoride is not a nutrient; it is a neurotoxin with substantial evidence of neurotoxicity. (EPA)
*Hydrogen fluoride is produced in an infants stomach when powdered formula and CWF mix.
*Hydrogen Fluoride is listed as a special health hazard substance by the State of New Jersey.
*The CDC says hydrogen fluoride damages cells and causes them to not work properly.
*Presently 314 studies have investigated fluorides effects on the brain and nervous system.
*To date, there have been 49 studies showing an association between fluoride exposure & reduced IQ.

*The medical definitions of fluorosis are being ignored.

*Surveys show an alarming increase in severe dental fluorosis rates.
*African Americans should be warned they are especially vulnerable to harm from fluorides.
*Cosmetic dental repair is difficult and it is expensive.
*There is no medical or dental justification for giving fluoride to persons with dental fluorosis.
*The EPA fired toxicologist who refused to quit reporting fluoride carcinogenicity and toxicity.
*Dr. Waldbotts work confirms Feltman and Kosels findings that 1% are sensitive to fluoride.
*Toxicological Profile says fluoride puts elderly, people with kidney problems and others at risk.
*It has been documented that fluoridated water has damaged animals including horses.
*AMA endorsement of the principle of fluoridation actually helps water fluoridation opponents.
If truly concerned about tooth decay, then identify sugar consumption as a major problem.

*The higher the sugar consumptionthe higher the dental caries increment. Even a low level of
sugar consumption was related to dental caries, despite the use of fluoride.
