DO We today have Similar reaSons for becoming Intensely occupied
with the word? yes, because undoubtedly Jehovah still has "many

remind Ourselves repeatedly of the

When one has all day in which
to do a job, the tendency often is

NOWreports from the field show
that Bible studies are being discontinued as publishers realiie that the

have to consider the matter c a r e
fully and then decide, but these
thoughts will help in making that
decision. Apparently the matter is
being taken seriously by the brothers, because circuit servant reports
show that many publishers unhesitatingly discontinue studies when

There are many territories in this
country that are worked less than
one& in six months. Additionally,
many of these are not worked thoroughly. Surely we can do a great
deal more in the 'searching' work.
8 What, pen, is it that appears
to be especlall~needed now in order
to become "intensely occupied with
the word"? Very likely it is a good
balance between the Biblestudy

Happiness Through Knowledge

and Upderstanding
As Jehovah's witnesses we are intensely
interested in Revelation, for we recognize
that since 1914 we have been living in the

B U ~there are many, many important prophetic details in the book. It would be easy
fok. one, without realizing it, to concentrate
on the details and still miss the marvelous overall picture. However, Revelation is not a
disjointed collection of dissimilar visions of
beasts, -pets
and so forth. Rather it is a
smooth progression of connected parts that .
blend together and build up to a stunning
climax. One brother who had a fairly good
knowledge of the meaning of various individual symbols and visions in the book was
helped to see the beautiful unity and progressive development of Revelation. He was
so moved and happy with the knowledge and

Surnmarg of Reuelation
The book of Revelation is in letter forr
written about 96 C.E. by the apostle John
to "seven congregations" in Asia Minor,
representing all the congregation of anointed
Christians. The introduction (1:13) idenl
fies God as the source and Jesus as the cha
nel for the eve la ti on. It assures happineb ,
for those who hear, and observe the words ?
of the prophecy.

that what follows pertains particularly to

%he Lord's day" (since 1914). He bas a vision
the glorious appearance of the resurrected
the channel for the entire book. Letters
are to be written to seven congregations.
(1:4-3:22) Knowing the spiritual condition
of the anointed, Jesus provides commendation, counsel and warning. This should give
us confidence that God trains those who will
be hyvenly kings over the earth.
Having seen the one who is the channel of
the revelation, John next has a vision of its

older persons (the anointed as reigning in
heaven) both worship the Creator and acknowledge that all creatures should do likenkise. Jehovah has a sealed scroll, but who
can open it?-5: 1-4.
John sees the Lamb, Jesus, take the scroll.
Chapter five explains why Christ is worthy
of this honor. So we should ascribe him honor
and be interested in the scroll's message about
a d ' s purpose affecting heaven and earth in
vBm\day. Instead of just reading the scroll,
John sees it in action. Christ begins to open
the seven seals. The first reveals Jesus as a
kingly ruler going forth to the final conquest.
The second through the fourth depict by
mounted horses the war, famine and extraordinary death since 1914 that have sent millions to Hades. With the breaking of the fifth
seal, assurance is provided that God will
avenge persecuted and martyred Christians.
What John sees when the sixth seal is opened
that there

changes and that men -aeek to be hid
from the'coming wrath of God.--6:l-17.
During an interval before the seventh seal
is opened John sees what work has to be done
before God allows the destructive storm of
tribulation to come. (7:1-17) The completion
of the work of sealing the 144,000 has to be
accomplished. (Later in Revelation [14:1-31
it is shown as accomplished.) Also, holding
back the destructive tribulation allows the
'great crowd" to gain God's approval and to
worship him along with the anointed.

So in a series of seven seals, the fmal one
widens out into a vision of seven other things
(the trumpets) ; there is an orderly sequence
of connected information. Five trumpet-like
messages about elements of Satan's organization are sounded. The fifth involves a plague
of locust-like preachers; i t is also said to be
the first of three Woes- When the sixth tmmpet is sounded, comment is made about the
releasing of those h u n d a t the Euphrates,
where ancient Babylon sat (the remnant
were released from Babylonish captivity after
World War I). Also the vision shows an XlIly

There is an interruption of the sixth tr&pet; John sees an angel with a little, eatable

the days of the sounding of the seventh mPt the mystery of God will be finished. Then *

and he is told about witnesses who prophesied
for a time (19141918), were killed by the
wild beast and finally revived. So a wild l)east
is bfought into the picture but not explained.
The standing Up to life of the witnesses precedes an earthquake in antitypical apostate
Jerusalem, bringing to an end the sixth tllEllpet and the second woe.-11: 1-14,
At the sounding of the seventh
an
announcement is made about the established
Kingdom (the "third woe" to God's enemies).
This results in wrathfulpersecution from the
natibns. (11:15-19) The next chapter explains
more fully what happened, John sees God's
wifely organization give birth safely to the
Kingdom, despite the Devil. There is war in
heaven and Satan is cast down to earth, where
he persecutes the remnant because of their
faithfulness. (12:1-17) This giv6s warning of
one great enemy, Satan. But other enemies
come into view. One is the Devil's beastly
political organization out of the sea. It wars
against Christians, who thus need endurance
and faith. (13:l-10) Another enemy is- the

Now?

~eah%ingdorn~ub~ishehs:
What fine groundwork we have
laid for our summer ministry! Reports for March and April are thrilling. Of special interest to us is the
grand news that we had our fourth
uew peak in publishers this service
year. Yes, in -4pril we attained a
peak of 380,550 publishers. How
heartwarming to know that there
are 5,672,more fellow praisers o f Jehovah than ever before in this eountry! Isn't that cause for rejoicing?
During April, when +e were featuring special issues of the magazines, we also enjoyed a marvelous
peak in magazine placements. Why,
we placed a p amazing total of 9,157,773 ! What a tremendous witness
was gipen concerning God's provision for those who love him to benefit from restoration of Paradise! At
the same time our four-month subscription campaign poved well beq ~ o n dany previous results with a
\total of 797,089 new subscriptions !
Last year's peak was 692,052.
Here are some other good reports
for you: Back-calls in April reached
a new peak of 3,283,549. This shows
fine concern for those manifesting interest. Bible studies, up from March,
totaled 327,159. Also commendable is
the high number of regnlar pioneers
-a new peak of 15,235. What about
vacation pioneers? Well, during our
special spring campaign we had a
total of 32,026! (22,401 of them in
April) The previous peak for both
March and April was back in 1965,
when we &ad 27,748 vacation pioneers. What fine zeal shown ! Think
too of how much encouragement all
these pioneers were to other publishers. And, of course, vacation pioneering was made possible in some
cases because other family members
cooperated.

3 More daylight hours are with
us during summer months. Many
find evenings an excellent time to
make the offer and return calls. I n
many territories people are home
evenings more than during the day
and generally are less hurried and
more relaxed so we can talk with
them. One publisher making evening
calls contacted 13 out of 15 householders (literature was placed with
11) in a territory where few were
contacted during the day or on weekends. If you can, why not share in
evening witnessing?
4 Many business people are seldom

Thinking About It?

The Ethiopian eunuch, after hav$& the truth explained to him and
seeing his responsibility, did more
than only t h i i about it, didn't
he? He said: "What prevents me
. M m gettiig baptized?'' (Acts 8 :36)
Many of us who followed the Ethiopian's wise decision as to being baptieed have since been thinking for
some time now about pioneering and
most appropriately may ask ourselves, 'What prevents me from pioneering?' I t is a good question to
consider, isn't it?
, "Pioneering is a field of service
that deserves serious consideration.
While some have family or other
Scriptural responsibilities that prevent them from getting into the
regular pioneer service now, many
have been able to enroll as pioneers

serving as regular pioneers! Here
are some encouraging examples to

i s ~ ~ : a Loving
- Provider! ,
Since the earthquakes in Peru,
Brother Knorr told-the Bethel family that all of the missionaries in
Peru are safe and well. Immediately
after it was learned how great the
disaster was, the congregations in
Lima gathered together clothing,
food and money and they took approximately seven tons of supplies
to the stricken area. Just as soon as
the highway was opened, three cars
and a tlvck loaded with material
went through to Casma, where there
are 20 publishers. All of the buildings were shaken down and there
was a pile of rubble. Supplies were
left with a special pioneer f q d i s tribution.
The caravan of four vehicles traveled on to Chimbote, where there
is a population of 250,000. We have
three congregations there of about
306 brothers. All of the homes were
tdestroyed, and two Kingdom Halls
were demolished. One Kingdom Hall
had a cement floor, so the first thing
the brothers did was to clear off the
rubble and put up a mat wall, and
Tuesday night they had their congregation book study there. The
brothers bringing supplies arrived
there Wednesday morning a t 9 a.m.
Shortly thereafter missionaries from
Trujillo came from the north to
Ohimbote with more assistance.
There are several towns in the
Andes that could not be reached for
eight days after the earthquake.
But our brothers loaded two vans
with supplies and were the 15th and
16th cars to get to Huaraz. What
joy was expressed! They said, "We
?id not expect you so soon"
he New Pork city brothers responded quickly and generously contributed far more clothing than is
needed. We have aiready made two

the many provisions that Jehovah
constantly makes for us? How numerous they are! For example, we
regularly enjoy an abundance of aPpetieing spiritual food in The Watchtower and Awake! We have five upbuilding meetings each week and
we have a splendid organization to
coordinate our preaching efforts.
Also we have the loving oversight
and the helpful direction of our servants and family heads; and every
year we have two enjoyable circuit
assemblies in addition to a district,
national or international assembly.
2 This year it is the "Men of Goodwill" District Assembly. The very
name is exciting, ,isn't it? By the
time you receive this issue of Kingdom Ministry you may well have
attended your district assembly. If
not, bend every effort to get there
and help others in the congregation
are distressed, by telling them the
message of God's kingdom.
We have also been told that brothers in Cameroun have been expelled
from that country because they refuse to vote. So the missionaries
there have been sent to other assignments. The Society received word
June 6 from Madagascar that someone there is trying to expel 20
mlssionarles too.. So troubles come

3 I t is true that living conditions 1
have really become much more difficult in recent years. This alone has
had its effect on many of us. Secular
work has become f a r more demanding and oppressive for some. Inflation is taking its toll. Some of our
brothers are working longer hours
each day just to make ends meet,
and yet amidst these deteriorating
conditions we all need tb keep our
balance, doh%we? What loving provisions Jehovah has made for us so
we may endure! By providing the
regular meetings and special assemblies he arranges for us to be a s

feel the need to get away and "rest

12 min: Making the Most of Our Opportunities. Talk and demonstration.
(3 rnin.) Chairman: Summer provides ideal time to have full share in
field service. Why? There a r e more
hours of daylight and we can extend
witnessing into t h e evening, when
most people a r e home from work and
in a relaxed frame of mind. Many
congregations need men to take lead.
Why not call a t time most favorable
to get men interested in t h e truth.
One brother who is a n overseer and
pioneer stated: 'After supper the people a r e more relaxed. Women a r e not
afraid to open t h e door because their
husbands a r e a t home. i n this way we
a r e able to s t a r t studies with whole
families and these can be, held on
Sunday or in t h e evening. H e ?lso
remarked t h a t the evening is the
best time for t h e ministry.'
(6 rnin.) Two book study servants
discuss evening witnessing. One discusses local obstacles and attitudes.
Other patiently refutes arguments,
pointing out people more receptive,

brother begins to get enthusiastic a s
disiussion continues. H e .finally decides to talk up evening wltnesslng at
next book study. The two discuss how
to have a share in evening witnessing.
(3 rnin.) Chairman: .Suggests working together in evenings where advisable. Any who cannot share in
evening witnessing yet want to spend
more time in the 'field, may spend a
full day in service from time to time.
Organize according to local circumstances. Those taking care of midweek
witnessing arrangements can encoura g e spending a full day in service.
For example, if group spends two
or three hours in house-to-house ministry in the mornings why not spend
another hour or two in the afternoons
making not-at-homes, back-calls or
conducting studies. Always enjoyable
and mutually beneficial to g e t together
with vacation and regular pioneers.
Asks audience how many would like

8 In Bible times our brothers Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Isaiah delivered
messages to the nation of IsraeL
They were the prophets of Jehovah
in their time. Some of these prophets
like Jeremiah were told in advance
that nobody would listen to their
message. Jehovah sajd: "Yo11 must
speak to them all these words, but
they will not listen to you; and you
must call to ,?em, but they willnot
answer you. (Jer. 7 :27) Really,
could any people to whom we might
preach today from house to house
be more unreceptive? Yet, despite
the attitude of those Israelites, Jeremiah endured. What a fine example
this is for us to endure in a satisfying work that offers unlimited opportunities for Kingdom witnesting
in these days!
Today we are living in the "time
of the end." Deserving ones need to
be searched out so that they will not
perish in the " s e a t tribulation."
(Matt. 10: 11) These days are the
last days for this old system and for
a never-to-berepeated worlf from
house to house.
1OAn experience that occurred recently here in Brooklyn helps us to
be aware of the impact that our
work from house to house has on
people. An elderly gentleman told
one of our brothers who was going
from house to house: "1admire you

The Bethel family was abuzz on

Monday morning after returning
from some of the first eastern conventions a t Jersey City, Boston,
Pittsburgh and other cities. What
fine talk there was about spiritual
food provided and the excellent dramas that were put on. How very
upbuilding the "Men of Goodwill"
District Assembly proved to be!
Of course, everyone was interested
n how many were a t the first group
~fconventions. For the eleven Cities
ve had reports on, the attendance
came to be 180,928 for the public
meetings. But think of those b a p

s there?
What a surprise to get the deluxe

Scriptures. They moved fast, even
a t $3.00 per copy. We learned that
there were 120,000 deluxe Bibles
lent \to the various conventions in
be United States and now, beginling August 1, congregations will
.x able to order their requirements
for those brothers who were not able
to get a .copy a t the convention if
they want one. As someone here
said: "We hope congregation servants will only order deluxe Bibles
for those who really want one, or
vho want to give it as a gift to
Jomeone. We do not have enough to
store them on shelves!' Anyway, we
would like to distribute these deluxe
Bibles as far a s me anaround the
world among the English-speaking
brothers who need a deluxe Bible.
This Bible release, along with the
public meeting booklet, was very
much appreciated
The feeling a t Bethel is that
everyone attending the convention
went away happy, delighted and
built up spiritually. What a marvelous climax to the 1970 service
year! If you have not been able to
get to a n assembly as yet, do everything you can to do so. It is certainly worth i t

Sunday. What a thrifl!Yould you
like to get that kind of joy from
your ministry? Many brothers, are
reporting excellent results from their
studies in the Trath book, with PeOple responding quickly to invitations
to come to meetings and into the
service. I t is just Such ones that
we want to find and help to appreciate the truth. But how can we do
it? One way is by covering our territory thoroughly.
When Jesus and his disciples
began the Christian ministry, there
was plenty of territory to cover,
and the account says, "They went
through the territory from village
to village, declaring the good news."
(Luke 9 :6) Now, of course, in many
places the territory is getting well
covered. The Society's territory desk
reports that this year will be the
best for covering isolated territories
throughout the country. Aboi~t500
congregations, along with approximately 100 pioneers who are serving

He recognizes that the pressures of

How Are They Doing? Can You

Jehovah has blessed our work

over 38,000 were baptized! It may

with your congregation. You may
have studied with some of them, and
if so, we know it has been a source
of great joy to you.
These new ones that you have
'helped along in the truth to this
point-how are they doing? Are the3
coming to meetings regularly? In
many cases, no doubt, the answer is
Yes. Are they having some share in
commenting a t the meetings? You
may say, "Yes." Are they sharing
regularly in the ministry? Man$ of
them are, and we know this brings
you much joy. Are they making as
much progress now as they did when

they were first- learning the truth

and beginning to associ?te? I n Some
cases, you will say, 'No." Then,
what can you do to help?
3 How long has it been since you
visited these new ones in their
homes? When you were conducting
the study you wed to go faithfully
each week, in foul weather and fair.
Would a visit now be helpful? Undoubtedly it would be. And if you
go prepared to dismss somethihg
that you know will be beneficial to
them, it Will undoubtedly prove to
be a great aid spiritually to these
new ones.
What might you discuss? Well,
how are they doing in Personal
study? Are they studying as regularly now as they used to when they
prepared for their Bible study each
week? Or have their habits along
this line been slipping? Why not
discuss it with them. you Could

occasionally, or regularly you could
