women are also wisely counseled on how to
handle their special problems.
The practical appeal of maqy of the article&-'
in The Watchtower and Awake! has done '
much to stimulate interest in the Bible. The
magazines discuss in depth the social ills
that plague mankind, and they offer very
practical and helpful suggestions for avoiding
the same. Not only are alcoholism, drug
abuse, immorality and other things in this
world warned against, but effective defense
measures are recommended.
Even the articles that we may think are
more appropriate for us personally can do
much in aiding those who are showing some
desire to grow spiritually. This includes discussions of such vital matters as personal
study, regular association with the congregation and active participation in the field
ministry.
Interesting, too, are the reports of large
assemblies of God's people, the life stories
of faithful witnesses of Jehovah and reports
of how our brothers are maintaining integrity under difficulty. Articles of this nat~rrcan do much to impress others with the conviction that Jehovah's witnesses have. They
show that Christianity is a way of life and
forcefully illustrate the difference between
true religion and the false. You might be
amazed at how many 'persons who are not
Jehovah's witness& read these articles, and
with interest.
Yes, Tke Watchtower and Awake! can do
much to aid persons to mold their thinking so
that they can have the mind of Christ and
the mind of God. They contain the sovd
truth of God's Word presented in a most
satisfying manner,. food for the mind provided through the "faithful and discreet
slave" and served "at the proper time.'

but it is not the prime consideration. Pioneer
should be persons whose example in Christia

be able to recognize them as persons who
display the fruitage of God's spirit.
Brothers responsible for recommending

of course, a person who is still enslaved to

a pioneer.
Other pre-enrollment requirements are set
forth in the "Lamp" book, pages 194-200.
One must be baptized for at least six months
and, after enrollment, one is expected to
average a hundred hours a month in the field
ministry-a total of 1,200 hours per year.
Vacation pioneering is an ideal arrangement for those who can pioneer on only a
limited basis, say, for one, two or more
months during the year. In fact, a person
can vacation pioneer for as little as two
weeks, devoting seventy-five hours to the
field ministry during the month. A person
desirous of being a vacation pioneer does
not have to wait six months after being baptized but may apply immediately after baptism, provided he has been a regular publisher for the past six months.

Looking over our April report, we

and 14,390 more publishers than
April a year ago ! Isn't it grand that
there are this many people interested id magnifying Jehovah's name by
sharing in the Kingdom service?
April was a big magazine month,
and we had two special issues along
with other fine ones. What did we
do with them? We put them into
the hands of the public to the
number of 9,888,126 ! Just think how
much good they can do. During th8
four-month subscription campaign,
475,982 subscriptions were also ohfaed. For the most part, these new

to our meetings. Really, what .a fine
witness was given, aiding others to
break clean from false religion and
to fix their hope on God's new order
so near a t hand!
As a springboard for our April
work we had the special public
-.talk and the MemoriaJ late in
March. Total Memorial attendance
rose to 976,233-an 8.3-percent increase, or 75,038 more perwns than
.last year! Isn't that encouraging?
The number of partakers decreased
- by 97, for a total of 4,559. The
Memorial truly impressed on our

we should not be discouraged. Why?
ff we have been faithful and have

We thought you would like to
know what fine work y ~ udid
during the 1972 service year in the
fortyeight States. Total publishers
increased by 15,346, which means
we had, on the average each month,
418,239 persons declaring the g6od
news. Isn't that fine! The ratio of
publishers to population is now 1 to
476. Of course, States vary considerably. The ratio ranges from
1 to 271 in Oregon to 1 to 972 in
Rhode Island.
There are 118 more congregations
than last ypar, bringing the total
to 5,794. This is wonderful, especially when we compare it ;with the
number of congregations twenty
years ago-3,103. Yes, 2,691 more!
And a tremendous amount of literature was placed. Including books,
