Rationale for inclusion of the course in the program:

This course is aimed to provide the knowledge of the basic concepts of further mechanics,
electric and magnetic fields and particle physics. The students will be equipped with
understanding on further mechanics, electric and magnetic fields and particle physics.
These concepts are essential since this is the foundation for their study in higher level of
physics and in engineering.

Teaching-learning strategy
Teaching and learning will be via lecture and practise tutorial sessions. Students will also
be required to do their own self-study either through guided questions in notes and tutorial.
Assessment strategy:
The formative assessment will be conducted through quizzes, written test, assignment and
trial examination.

Synopsis
This subject will cover units and dimensions, linear motion, forces, energy and power, fluid
and strength of materials. It emphasizes on developing students physics competency in
quite a general area of physics to prepare them for higher level of physics and
engineering. The main method of delivery combines lecture, tutorial and drill with activities
to generate interest.
