Brief Syllabus
Biomedical instrumentation system, cell structure, Bioelectrical signals, Bio-electrodes, Respiration
sensors, ECG machine, EEG machine, EMG machine, Heart rate measurement. Pulse rate measurement,
Respiration rate measurement, Blood pressure measurement, Cardiac output measurement,
phonocardiography, Vector-cardiography. Defibrillators, pacemakers, Computed Tomography, Magnetic
Resonance Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Telemedicine.
Course Objectives: The objective of this course is to enable the students to:
1. Apply the theories and concepts of biology, mathematics, and engineering science associated with
humans system.
2. Explain the working and functions of electrodes and transducers used for measuring signal of
human systems.
3. Understand the necessity of recording systems for measuring the Physiological parameters.
4. Identify and explain the operations of patient monitoring systems
5. Review some advancement in latest technological trends through the concept of telemedicine.

Rubrics are used to evaluate the students for assignments, tutorials, presentations and
case studies if any
Paper Setting Minor examination will have five questions from the prescribed syllabus satisfying the
Guidelines
respective course outcomes. Major examination will be set in three sections (six
questions), uniformly covering all units and course outcomes.
Section 1 :Will contain short answer type questions preferably covering all
units. (Compulsory section)

Section 2 : will have at least 50% numerical based questions along with subjective
questions asking why and how of the topics (3 questions to be attempted out of 4)
Section 3 : will have one compulsory question numerical/short case study/design related
problem from any major unit.
