Product Overview
1.1
Introduction
With the multi-mode era coming, ZTE, who is dedicated to provide comprehensive
network solutions and deliver the future-oriented quality network for the operators,
developed the ground breaking SDR unified platform with the essential feature to
support multi-mode and multi-band radio access.
Based on this innovative SDR platform, ZTE promotes series base stations to satisfy
different scenario requirements, including Indoor Macro, Outdoor Macro, Distributed,
Outdoor Micro, and Mini BTS.
These SDR based series base stations aims to design a unified network which can bring
seamless experience to operators. In GSM, UMTS or mixed mode, it enables operators
to make significant CAPEX and OPEX savings because they only need to deploy a Uni
Radio Access Network, compared to the costs involved with independent GSM and
UMTS networks.
ZXSDR BS8800 is a multi-carrier, multi-mode indoor macro base station which can
support GPRS/EDGE/Enhanced EDGE and UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ simultaneously. It can
be flexibly configured as a GERAN BTS, or a UTRAN Node B, or a G/U dual mode base
station only by software reconfiguration. The appearance of ZXSDR BS8800 is shown in
the figure below.
Figure 1-1
1.2
Benefits
ZXSDR BS8800 can accommodate several kinds of multi-carrier RSUs, including 1T2R,
2T4R RF modules. The 2T4R Radio Unit (RSU82) has the capability to support 2*4
GSM TRXs or 2*3 UMTS carriers. Expansion is achieved through software configuration.
ZXSDR BS8800 meets G/U dual mode networking requirements in different scenarios. It
supports GSM 900+GSM 1800 dual band networking, and UMTS 900 can be realized in
the same hardware with corresponding software upgrade. When GSM are configured
initially, UMTS 2100 can be supported by adding new RF unit.
Smooth Evolution
ZXSDR BS8800 software and hardware support full-feature EDGE and UMTS/HSPA
and satisfy operators future needs for data services. With software upgrade it is easy to
realize the evolution to EDGE+ and HSPA+. Even in the LTE phase, through minimal
change, ZXSDR BS8800 can support LTE functionality.
ZTE BBU has hot-standby design for main control board and resource pool for
baseband processing. Resources are shared between GSM and UMTS, even LTE.
The PA efficiency achieves 50% with ZTE patent Doherty + DPD + D-PT technology.
Power consumption can be greatly decreased together with several energy-saving
features.
IP RAN
ZXSDR BS8800 fully supports IP RAN and provides GE/FE or IPoverE1 for Abis/Iub
interfaces.
1.3
Application Scenarios
ZXSDR BS8800 develops a new solution for GSM/UMTS integrated network and
network evolution. It can be applied in dense urban, urban, suburban, rural area,
highway or indoor environment, and also it can fully meet operators requirements in
different stages and scenarios. In addition, ZXSDR BS8800 can decrease the mobile
network construction and operation cost.

The operating support layer provides the functions of OSS, OAM, DBS, BRS, BRACS,
and SCS to serve different BS modes.
BRACS (Barrier Access Control Sub-system) is to control the access to bear layer.
OSS (Operation Support Sub-system) is the support layer in this entire framework, which
is a hardware irrespective platform for running software and provides basic functions like
scheduling, timer, memory management, communication, sequencing control,
monitoring, alarming and logging.
BSP (Board Support Package) supports the information routing to the GSM, UMTS and
public parts in the application layer.
