Friends, thank you for your interest and drawing my attention to our local media
reluctance to cover issues such as the one we are attempting to address at our press
conference. This problem (news coverage) has been address by me, and other
advocates, in San Antonio for years. I have even met with some editorial boards and
discussed the lack of coverage on Hispanic issues relevant to the Mexican Americans
who make up the majority of the population of San Antonio.
The "race card" within the same context of "discrimination", no one wants to admit it
exists. The fact is, discrimination is alive and well in South Texas: economically,
educationally, and medical services (specially to our Hispanic Veterans). The present
political race discriminatory rhetoric against Hispanics has exposed what the true
mentality of South Texas.
Regardless, of whether there is any press/media covering this press conference.
Nevertheless, the meeting is important. It is a start of us, to say "Hispanics matter";
"Mexican Americans Matter", sounds good to me-but this is the point, no matter what
we base our conversation tomorrow at 2:pm; Post 26, 10th Street, San Antonio, Texasthe message should be "we have had enough" and we need to engage ourselves into
organizing our "gente". We/I hope to see as many of you tomorrow. Thank you.
