The Corporal Works of Mercy are found in the teachings of Jesus and give us a model for how we should treat
all others, as if they were Christ in disguise. They "are
charitable actions by which we help our neighbors in their
bodily needs" (U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults). They
respond to the basic needs of humanity as we journey
together through this life.
Visit the Sick
Those who are sick are often forgotten or avoided. In
spite of their illness, these individuals still have much to
offer to those who take the time to visit and comfort
them.

Give blood

Spend time volunteering at a nursing home Get

creative and make use of your talents (e.g. sing, read,
paint, call Bingo, etc.)!

Take time on a Saturday to stop and visit with an elderly neighbor.

Offer to assist caregivers of chronically sick family

members on a one-time or periodic basis. Give caregivers time off from their caregiving responsibilities
so they can rest, complete personal chores, or enjoy a
relaxing break.

Next time you make a meal that can be easily frozen,

make a double batch and give it to a family in your
parish who has a sick loved one.

Divine Mercy Sunday

The Sunday after Easter is universally observed throughout the Church as Divine Mercy Sunday. St. Pope John
Paul II established the Feast of Divine Mercy Sunday
during the canonization of St. Faustina in the Jubilee
Year 2000. Our Lords great promise: The soul that will
go to Confession and then receive Holy Communion
shall obtain the complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. We want to encourage everyone to take advantage of this incredible promise on this Great Feast of
Mercy.
Everyone is invited to attend the Divine Mercy Sunday
Devotion with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on
Sunday, April 3rd from 2:30 3:30 p.m. in the
Church. A cake reception will follow in the Hall.

Easter in memory or in honor of a family member or
friend, please complete the special Flower Offering
envelope in the pews and place in the offertory basket. The suggested donation is $10.00.

Candy fundraiser. It will be in the Hall for pickup this
weekend (March 20). If you missed the presale, we do
have extras available for purchase as well. The funds
from this are all going to help with the Confirmation Retreat in April.

Goodbye
We are very sad to announce that Fr. Ed
Corcoran will be leaving San Diego in
April and returning to Chicago. His last
Mass at St. Columba will be at 7:30 a.m.
on April 3. Thanks, Fr. Ed, for your
time, your kindness, and your lovely Masses.

There will be no childcare available during
the 9:30 Mass on Easter Sunday.

School News
St. Columba Catholic School will begin registration
for returning students starting March 16, 2016.
Open enrollment for new students will begin on
April 5, 2016. Tuition Assistance is available
through the Bishop Flores Scholarship Foundation.

What are you doing with your plastic bottles and aluminum cans? The Youth Group has been collecting
them to help fund their Confirmation retreats and
their attendance at Steubenville. This is an ongoing
fundraiser and has helped send youth who would not
otherwise be able to attend to experience either of
these very important events.
You can help easily by dropping off your plastic bottles and aluminum cans at the storage container in
the gravel parking lot. The youth sort and bag the recyclables each Sunday and an adult volunteer transports them to the recycling center. Thank your for
your continued support.
