ERETZ ISRAEL

OBEDIENCE - GODS PROMISE OF BLESSING

Deuteronomy 11:8-15
8

Therefore you shall keep every commandment which I command you today, that you may be
strong, and go in and possess the land which you cross over to possess,
9

and that you may prolong your days in the land which the LORD swore to give your fathers, to
them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.[a]
10

For the land which you go to possess is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come,
where you sowed your seed and watered it by foot, as a vegetable garden;
11

but the land which you cross over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water
from the rain of heaven,
12

a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it,
from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year.
13

And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to
love the LORD your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,
14

then I[b] will give you the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that
you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil.
15

And I will send grass in your fields for your livestock, that you may eat and be filled.

Exodus 23:27-30
27

I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you
come, and will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.
28

And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the
Hittite from before you.
29

I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the
beasts of the field become too numerous for you.
30

Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit
the land.

JUDGMENT ON PERSISTENT UNFAITHFULNESS

Ezekiel 14:12-13
12

The word of the Lord came again to me, saying: 13 Son of man, when a land sins against Me
by persistent unfaithfulness, I will stretch out My hand against it; I will cut off its supply of
bread, send famine on it, and cut off man and beast from it.

FAMINE
1 Chronicles 21:11-12
11

So Gad came to David and said to him, Thus says the Lord: Choose for yourself,

12

either three[a] years of famine, or three months to be defeated by your foes with the sword of
your enemies overtaking you, or else for three days the sword of the Lordthe plague in the
land, with the angel[b] of the Lord destroying throughout all the territory of Israel. Now consider
what answer I should take back to Him who sent me.
Ezekiel 14:13
13

Son of man, when a land sins against Me by persistent unfaithfulness, I will stretch out My
hand against it; I will cut off its supply of bread, send famine on it, and cut off man and beast
from it.
Amos 8:11
1

Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord GOD,

That I will send a famine on the land,
Not a famine of bread,
Nor a thirst for water,
But of hearing the words of the LORD.

Jeremiah 14:6
6

And the wild donkeys stood in the desolate heights;

They sniffed at the wind like jackals;
Their eyes failed because there was no grass.

Jeremiah 8:12
12

Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination?

No! They were not at all ashamed,
Nor did they know how to blush.
Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;
In the time of their punishment
They shall be cast down, says the LORD.

Genesis 12:10
Abram in Egypt
10

Leviticus 26:23-26
23

And if by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me,

24

then I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

25

And I will bring a sword against you that will execute the vengeance of the covenant;

when you are gathered together within your cities I will send pestilence among you;
and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
26

When I have cut off your supply of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and
they shall bring back your bread by weight, and you shall eat and not be satisfied.

Deuteronomy 11:11-17
11

but the land which you cross over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water
from the rain of heaven,
12

a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it,
from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year.
13

And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to
love the LORD your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,
14

then I[a] will give you the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that
you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil.
15

And I will send grass in your fields for your livestock, that you may eat and be filled.

16

Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods
and worship them,
17

lest the LORDs anger be aroused against you, and He shut up the heavens so that there be no
rain, and the land yield no produce, and you perish quickly from the good land which the LORD
is giving you.

2 Samuel 21:1
David Avenges the Gibeonites
21 Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David
inquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is because of Saul and his bloodthirsty house,
because he killed the Gibeonites.

Lamentations 4:4-10
4

The tongue of the infant clings

To the roof of its mouth for thirst;
The young children ask for bread,
But no one breaks it for them.

Those who ate delicacies

Are desolate in the streets;
Those who were brought up in scarlet
Embrace ash heaps.
6

The punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people

Is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom,
Which was overthrown in a moment,
With no hand to help her!
7

Her Nazirites[a] were brighter than snow

And whiter than milk;
They were more ruddy in body than rubies,
Like sapphire in their appearance.
8

Now their appearance is blacker than soot;

They go unrecognized in the streets;
Their skin clings to their bones,
It has become as dry as wood.
9

Those slain by the sword are better off

Than those who die of hunger;
For these pine away,
Stricken for lack of the fruits of the field.
10

The hands of the compassionate women

Have cooked their own children;
They became food for them
In the destruction of the daughter of my people.

And the LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among
the nations where the LORD will drive you.

33

I will scatter you among the nations and draw out a sword after you;

your land shall be desolate and your cities waste.

MARK TWAIN IN THE HOLY LAND

Mark Twain visited Israel in 1867, and published his impressions in Innocents Abroad. He
described a desolate country devoid of both vegetation and human population:
.. A desolate country whose soil is rich enough, but is given over wholly to weeds a silent
mournful expanse. a desolation. we never saw a human being on the whole route. hardly
a tree or shrub anywhere. Even the olive tree and the cactus, those fast friends of a worthless soil,
had almost deserted the country.
He was amazed by the smallness of the city of Jerusalem:
A fast walker could go outside the walls of Jerusalem and walk entirely around the city in an
hour. I do not know how else to make one understand how small it is.
And he described the Temple Mount thus:
The mighty Mosque of Omar, and the paved court around it, occupy a fourth part of Jerusalem.
They are upon Mount Moriah, where King Solomons Temple stood. This Mosque is the holiest

place the Mohammedan knows, outside of Mecca. Up to within a year or two past, no christian
could gain admission to it or its court for love or money. But the prohibition has been removed,
and we entered freely for bucksheesh.
GATHERING OF ISRAEL COMEBACK

Jeremiah 16:14
God Will Restore Israel
14

Therefore behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The
LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,

Ezekiel 11:14-21
God Will Restore Israel
14

Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

15

Son of man, your brethren, your relatives, your countrymen, and all the house of Israel in its
entirety, are those about whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get far away from the
LORD; this land has been given to us as a possession.
16

Therefore say, Thus says the Lord GOD: Although I have cast them far off among the
Gentiles, and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet I shall be a little sanctuary
for them in the countries where they have gone.
17

Therefore say, Thus says the Lord GOD: I will gather you from the peoples, assemble you
from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.
18

And they will go there, and they will take away all its detestable things and all its
abominations from there.
19

Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, [a] and take the stony
heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh,
20

that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My
people, and I will be their God.

21

But as for those whose hearts follow the desire for their detestable things and their
abominations, I will recompense their deeds on their own heads, says the Lord GOD.

Matthew 24:32-34
The Parable of the Fig Tree
32

Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts
forth leaves, you know that summer is near.
33

So you also, when you see all these things, know that it[a] is nearat the doors!

34

Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take
place.

Deuteronomy 11:11-12
11

but the land which you cross over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water
from the rain of heaven,
12

a land for which the Lord your God cares; the eyes of the Lord your God are always on it, from
the beginning of the year to the very end of the year.

Isaiah 2:3
3

Many people shall come and say,

Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His paths.
For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
