Healthlink engage in free medical services on a quarterly

basis. Every quarter, they choose one church from each city, and
each branch, from Pasay, Las Pinas and Makati, will provide free
services to church members.
Since collection of the amounts in this program is not
pursued, they are excluded from net patient service revenue of
Healthlink. The estimated cost of providing charity care was
740,214, 1,044,966, and 1,032,665 during 2014, 2013, and
2012, respectively. The cost of providing charity care is estimated
by applying an overall cost-to-charge ratio to the charges incurred.

RATIONALITY
Healthlinks Corporate Social Responsibility Program

is

philanthropic in nature, since it is engaged in providing free

healthcare services to members of churches. However, it is not
limited to being philanthropic alone.
For a third-world country like the Philippines, economic growth
can be unstable, that is why, this program benefits the economy in
aggregate because by providing free healthcare services, especially
to those from the grass-roots level, it can aid in providing the
economy with a health workforce, or it can add potential workforce
member, which eventually, will increase the countrys human
resources, and thus decreasing the portion of the population that
suffers poverty.

Also, it is social in nature because they chose a certain or a
specific social group, which is the church, as their beneficiary. So
what does this imply? Of course, by providing free healthcare to
church members, they tighten up the bond between health
institutions like them, and religious group, particularly their chosen
churches.
It is also, at some point, has technological relevance. Because
during the course of this program, they can introduce certain
technological advancement the may market the health industry as a
whole.
Lastly, this program can be considered ethical. Why? Because
just from the thought that you are to aid those worshippers, and
help them by providing free healthcare, is already a moral and
ethical act. If you watched Marvels The Amazing Spiderman 2,
starred by Andrew Garfield, there was line saying that if you, can do
good things to others, and then you have the moral obligation of
doing those things. Thus, this is ethical not just from a social point
V.

of view, but also in the practice of their medical profession.

PROPOSED & RECOMMENDED CORPORATE & SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILTY PROGTAM
Since Healthlink already has an existing Corporate Social
Responsibility

program,

not

much

of

proposal

and

recommendation of another will do much. However, as requirement

for fulfillment of this paper, we came up with a proposed Corporte &
Social Responsibility Program.
Aside

from

conducting

free

health

services

to

church

members in three different cities and having a mobile clinic, they

can also conduct a feeding program to children, as simple response
to malnutrition.
As a health institution, they are well-aware that malnutrition
runs rampant in the society, drastically affecting majority of the
young population, thus resulting in to poor health conditions and
poor growth.

The objective of this program proposal, as stated in the
previous paragraph, is to address malnutrition among young
population, and mitigate, if not totally eliminated, its corresponding
effects.
The program tends to feed, at least 100 students with a
health meal, once every month. Several meals may not be sufficient
for overall development, but this may encourage those beneficiaries
to take a stand against poor diet, and start a healthy lifestyle.
Similar to their existing CSR program, this program may be
conducted in three (3) cities that Healthlink is currently operating.

The budget for the venue will not be chargeable because it
will take place in the same location as to where they are conducting
their current CSR program.
Another option is to align this feeding program with the
already existing mobile clinic. Since the program is dubbed as
Bantay Kalusugan Program, the mobile clinic may also conduct
the feeding program on its target area.
The duration of the program will last for 10 months, starting
June of the current year to March of the next year, which will make
the program coincide with the Academic Year of the Philippines.
VII.

Each program proper will be held on a monthly basis.

ACTION PLAN
The proposed addition to Healthlinks existing CSR program
will be conducted, as stated in the previous sections, in churches
located in cities where the entity is operating.
It will be conducted by the same volunteers who conduct their
current CSR program.
The entity will try to provide a healthy meal to children on a
monthly basis to help promote a campaign against malnutrition.
At least 100 children from each city will benefit from this
program, and will receive monthly meals and medical check-up from
Healthlink.
In order to monitor the progress of this program, Healthlink
will keep track on the overall health development of the child, as
the program goes on. Also, as stated before, one of the goal of this
program is to encourage people to engage in a healthy lifestyle,
another proof of the success of this program is if there will be a
significant increase in the population who engaged in a healthy
lifestyle, and a decrease in the number of malnourished children.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

A. CONCLUSION

COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND ACCOUNTANCY

Overall, the existing corporate & social responsibility
program of Healthlink Diagnostic and Laboratory Clinic is already
a success in almost all aspect. Its significant relevance to
philanthropy, ethics, and society and to the economy is already a
sufficient proof that this CSR program, along with the entity
itself, will go a long way.
This CSR program is really essential, especially to those
who cannot afford a quality healthcare service.
Regardless

if

they

will

follow

our

proposal

and

recommended program, they already have an effective and

impacting program available. In fact, it is not necessary for an
organization to have several CSR program, so long as it meet its
ends, and benefit all its stakeholders in the manner intended.
The entity is in good position to add another charitable
activity, or expand its currently existing CSR program. But either
way, they already met their ends, and achieved the goal their
CSR program was created for. In other words, they have already
overdone it.
B. RECOMMENDATION
After analyzing the surface data, we have made the
following recommendations:
1. They extend their free health service to beneficiaries
other than those who are already enjoying it
churches;
2. They provide additional healthcare deeds, such as
giving free vitamins;
3. They try, as much as possible, to conduct the
program for more than 4 times a year;
4. To extend operations, and charitable deeds to other
cities. It will not only increase income for the entity,
but also people who will benefit from their CSR
program,.

With the trend the company is headed, their financial
position is in good standing, evident by the significant increase in
the number of asset it currently has in possession. So it is upon
their discretion alone if they want to add more charitable activity
in their books.
