Rococo Trombone
Choir
The Rococo Trombone Choir is a new group that will be performing exciting music of various genres and
styles. The word rococo means a generally superficial elegance and charm by the use of elaborate
ornamentation, which we feel accurately describes the sound of a large trombone ensemble.
With performances over the summer of 2016, the group will play selections such as Sousas The Stars
and Stripes Forever and America the Beautiful in celebration of Independence Day. The group will
also premiere a number of original works.
With the music selected and concert dates set, there is only one thing missing: the musicians! Anyone
who is interested is welcome to join. With the organization in its first year, auditions will take place in
order to first, fill ALL positions, and also to assign parts to individuals. Those interested must fill out and
return an application prior to the audition date.
Auditions will be held in the Apollo High School band room on Saturday, May 7, starting at 6:00 PM. If
your application is accepted, an audition time will be randomly selected. The audition times will be
available to the public on Tuesday, April 26. Auditions for those applicants who submit their applications
after April 26 will be placed at the end of the audition list.
The audition will consist of the following:
A. A prepared solo (2-7 minutes)
B. Excerpts from the following (enclosed):
i) 1812 Overture 2nd Trombone (Tchaikovsky)
ii) Academic Festival Overture, Opus 80 (Brahms/Safranek)
iii) An Alpine Symphony, Opus 64 - 3rd trombone (R. Strauss)
iv) Overture to William Tell (Rossini)
v) Symphony No. 3 in D minor (Mahler)
C. G, C, F, B, E, and A scales (memorized, 2 octave ad lib.)
D. Sight reading
Thank you for your interest and support for local music, and for auditioning for a position in the Rococo
Trombone Choir.
Sincerely,
Matthew D. Cates
Founder and Director
Rococo Trombone Choir
