MDG to SDG: Transforming Our World

First, and most important, these Goals apply to every

nation and every sector. Cities, businesses, schools,
organizations, all are challenged to act. This is called
UNIVERSALITY
Second, it is recognized that the Goals are all interconnected, in a system. We cannot aim to achieve just
one Goal. We must achieve them all. This is called
INTEGRATION
Third, it is widely recognized that achieving these Goals
involves making very big, fundamental changes in how we
live on Earth. This is called TRANSFORMATION

Fostering Peace - Enabling SD

This is the People's Agenda, a plan of action for ending poverty in all its
dimensions, irreversibly, everywhere, and leaving no one behind. It seeks to ensure
peace and prosperity, and forge partnerships with people and planet at the core.
The integrated, interlinked and indivisible 17 Sustainable Development Goals are
the people's goals and demonstrate the scale, universality and ambition of this
new Agenda

Transforming Our Nation: The Role of a Catalyst

A cabinet portfolio on SD is a call to
move away from the fragmented
planning and implementation.
A dedicated ministry for SD is a call
for a catalytic role for
transformation.
A lead institution to facilitate
necessary sustainable development
policies, strategies, guidelines,
mechanisms and tools.

Not a SD super cop a dynamic catalyst and a proactive facilitator

Implementation should remain with the relevant agencies
sustainability transformation.

Convergence Planning
Fragmented approaches to
development are an obstacle
towards achieving sustainable
development.
It also creates obstacles towards
transforming Sri Lanka and
implementing the national
commitments to the 2030
agenda for sustainable
development.
MoSDW plans to ensure
coherent and convergent
development interventions.
A transformation think tank is
being built for visioning and
developing key pathways.
Leveraging science, technology
and innovation in support of
Agenda 2030 for SD.
