EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF PROJECT PROPOSAL (maximum 300

words)
Dry chili seed is known as the major causes to appendicitis disease. Some
research even show that chili seeds contain Capsaicin that could be
harmful if it get contact with hands and eyes. Since it could dissipated large
amount of heat, the possibility of human to get burnt intestinal and lesion
at the abdominal surface is high. This is the challenges that any Small &
Medium Enterprise (SME) would face, especially the one who venture in
chilis industry. Thereby, this project is forwarded to facilitate the SME in
order to comply the health regulations and satisfy customers need. This
project is proposed based on the previous design project that had been
developed by third year students. There are few technical problems
occurred to the machine they built that cause malfunction. Hereby, a new
project is generated based on the previous scenario and the new title is
chosen which is Chili Seeds Separator. The focus not just on the dry chili,
but any type of chili can be use as long as the main function is to separate
the seeds using this new product. Methodology section will explained using
the aid of flowchart and the working duration is stated in Gantt chart. Since
sustainability is chosen as the concept of this Integrated Design Project,
students should be able to design and build a prototype of the machine
itself while providing a clear review from the report at the end of the
project.

DETAIL PLANNING
Project Background

1)

Problem Statement:

Due to increasing used of seedless dried chilies as the main ingredient for seasoning,
Small Medium Enterprise (SME) with number of employees not exceeding 200 workers
cannot afford to cover the market need. With this shortage of manpower and nonautomatically process, the seedless dried chilies are difficult to produce, and this causes
the order or the business on hand loss.
This is important to remove the seed from the chilies. The main component in chilies is
called capsaicin and it is inside the seed of it. However, the capsaicin, the active
ingredient that makes the dried chilies hot will have an effect on metabolism. If the
amount is massive, the stomach and intestines would not be able to handle. Another
study also shows that the chilies seeds cannot be digested in human feces and
therefore they slipped into a channel as salty thing, in a very long time there may be the
seeds stuck into channel appendices which eventually became the bacteria nest and
breed as the infection that causes inflammation of the appendix.
Therefore, in order to solve this problem, we need some innovative solution. We have
to design and fabricate a machine that can totally remove the seed from the dried
chilies. Furthermore, this machine must have high processing speed and efficiency so
that the production rate from SME can increase and obtain more order from the
purchaser.

2)

Related works:

Nowadays, dried chillies become one of important ingredients in Asian dishes. Where it is make
some people to feel hot and spicy meals but delicious and therefore they become more desirable to be
tasted. However, consumer face many problems or bad effects of the dried chillies especially
concerning with its effects for human health. Thus, consuming foods that contains chillies seeds for a
certain period may cause appendicitis. Next, appendicitis disease is generally caused by bacterial
infection and cannot digested in human faeces. Moreover, cooking with chillies seeds makes the
dishes become yellowish and therefore reduce appetite. As Far as the issue is concerned, the chillies
seeds need to be removed as much as possible before cooking. However, preparing unseeded chillies

manually required tedious steps and time consuming in industries.

Therefore, due to the appendicitis disease and to reduce human exposure to chillies seeds, a machine
that can remove or separate the dried chilli seeds should be fabricated. While, at the same time it can
be reduced the processing time and produce more chillies. The Machine should be considered in term
of cost, sustainability, time, maintenance and the output. This machine is designed to separate seeds
from dried chillies in high volume particularly to help chilli based industries to optimize production
while reducing the appendicitis disease. Furthermore, the machine is invented with simple
mechanism, easy to use and the operation automatically function. There are have several production
process consists of cutting and separating. Through that, the production will produce a lot of dried
chillies without seeds in short period of time that may need in any industries to reduce their
production cost. Which is suitable created for Small Medium Enterprise (SME).The performance of
this machine is very efficient and might be capable to separate between chillies and seeds almost
ninety nine percent of the performance. Another advantage that can be made is its portability so it can
be moved anywhere wanted. By the help of this machine manual cutting and process of removing
seeds, like traditional process can be eliminated.

4) Objectives:
The objective of our project is
To help Small Medium Enterprise (SME) separate chili seeds in lot of
quantity with the help of this machine.
To reduce negative impact obtained from chili seeds especially
harmful disease such as appendicitis disease and cancer.
To simplify the separation process of the chili seeds in automated way.
To fulfil the sustainability concept of this Integrated Design Project.

Methodology

Description of methodology
For our group IDP project, we have chosen scenario no 49 which is about to
avoid the consume more of seed in cooked that might cause the appendicitis.
Our method of research is divided into three sub section which are:
1. Data collection and analysis
From the data collected from all of the group members, we have discussed
about the conceptual plan of the prototype product regarding on how will it
work and the mechanism than could be used to make the prototype.
2. Proposed design
For the design stage, all of the group members have to at least come up
with one design of the product. We will then compare all the designs and
decided to pick only one design that will be used for the product.
3. Developing a prototype
After we are done with the design, we will continue to the next stage which
is to develop a prototype. There are several constraints set to develop the
prototype which are the cost and time limit.

Gantt Chart

Gantt chart is commonly used in project management. It is one of the most popular tool to help you to
create a schedule for your project and showing activities, tasks or events displayed against time. The
Gantt chart for our project is made in order to help us to have a well time management. On the left of
the chart is a list of the activities and along the top is a suitable time scale. Each activity is
represented by a small bar. The position and length of the bar reflects the start, the duration and the
end of the activity.

Expected Outcomes

The final result of this project should fulfil the main objectives of this program
which is sustainability, students should be able to design and build a prototype
of the machine itself while providing a clear review of the Chili Seeds Separator
from the report at the end of the project. In order to create a sustainable
product, students have to make a lot of research and effort to understand how
the machine work and the suitable mechanism to be applied in the machine.
Other objectives also should be fulfil to comply with the scenario. This machine
could be commercialized to the wider market and get attention from SME
industry and be used as part of their manufacturing process.
