3.1 GENERAL
The structure of the helicopter EC155 is based on modern technology and makes wide use of new materals:sandwich
design stressed structure, NOMEX and carbon (fenestron fin ) and carbon fiber (horizontal stabilizer), composite (foam
or NOMEX sandwich) cowlings and fairing, it includes:
- the canopy
- the cabin
- the primary structure
- the tail structure
- the secondary structure

3.1.1 DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE SUB-ASSEMBLIES

=CANOPY AND DOORS
- welded framework (trapezodal light alloy tubes)
- NOMEX honeycomb celling with glass cloth
- 2 cabin access doors (1on LH side, 1on RH side) which
open forward and are jettisonable
- 2 sliding doors (1on LH side, 1on RH side) which open
aftward
- PERTELITE A 75 plexiglass transparent surface
- 1 baggage compartment door.

Ceiling

Forward structwelded

=PRIMARY STRUCTURE
The primary structure comprises:
-the forward structure which contains the welded frame
work, the doors and the ceiling
-the body structure which is attached to the forward structure by a mainframe
-the aft structure which is attached to the body structure
by another mainframe
-the transmission deck which is attached to the body structure and the aft structure.

Engine

Strong

The body structure along with the bottom structure form

a rigid, monolithic assembly. It is the strongest part of
the fuselage because it directly confronts in-flight stress.
Forward

New design structure stiffened plates replaced by NOMEX

honeycomb panels with light alloy skin (lighter and more
resistant material).
- 3 main sections : forward structure, body structure
and aft structure
- 2 strong frames to which are attached the main rotor
shaft suspension bars
- titanium engine bay deck

=TAIL STRUCTURE
NOMEX honeycomb tail boom with light alloy skin.
The tail boom, wich may be disassembled, is bolted to
the aft structure junction frame
- high strenght composite material fenestron fin
The stabilizer comprises:
- a one-piece carbon fabric,horizontal stabilizer wich passes
through the tail boom
- two NOMEX sandwich structure side fins
- glass fiber tail rotor guard

The aircraft references are determined by three planes

X, Y, Z :
- a horizontal plane, parallel to the cabin floor datum are
located 3 m (118.1 in) above this datum. This is the Z
datum plane (the cabin floor datum is materialized by the
surface of the cabin floor).
- a vertical plane perpendicular to the cabin floor datum. This
is the Y datum plane, the aircraft plane of symmentry,
from which lateral c.g dimensions are measured: These
dimensions are positive to the right of this plane (starbroard)
and negative to the left (port).
- a vertical plane, perpendicular to the two planes mentioned above, situated 157.5 in approx. forward of the centre of the main rotor head. This is the X datum plane from
which the longitudinal reference stations are measured.

3.2.3 WHERE ARE THE LOAD PATH?

With the bottom structure, the body structure forms a rigid

monolithic assembly. It is the strong part of the structure,
since it is this structure which directly absorbs the efforts
in flight (lift FN and weight P) and during landing at the
main landing gear units.
It supports the main power transmission system (MGB
and rotor), the engines, the landing gear, the aft structure
and the fuel tanks. The spars and bulkheads within the
frames form the compartiments for the :
- fuel tanks
- radio equipement
- main landing gear units

3.2.5 LEVELLING LANDS AND JACKING POINTS
=LATERAL AND LONGITUDINAL LAVELLING LANDS
Red painted lands located on the RH side of transmission deck. Near to them, an engraved plate on which are marked
the transmission deck buckling values with respect to the aircraft horizontal datum.

=JACKING POINTS
- RH and LH symmmetrical jacking points (toolings)
- Rear jacking point along the aircraft centreline (permanently installed).

Levelling lands

Jacking points

=WEIGHING
The aircraft must be in the following configuration:
- on a hard surface, in a closed building,
- empty fuel tanks and circuits,
- the rotor brake must be tightened.
Record the mas of the optional equipement.

The jacking ball assembly must be installed onto the aircraft

The aircraft is on level by three jacks (1) on their assembly
of respective weighing (2).
the aircraft mass is equal to the sum of the three values
minus the mass of the optional installations.

3.2.6 TIE DOWN POINTS
- 4 tie down points at cabin floor level positioned
symmetricaly on either side of the aircraft
- 1 tie down point at the rear lower part of tail boom
- 2 "strong wind" tie down points at transmission deck
positionned symmetricaly on either side of the aircraft.

3.2.7 HOISTING THE AIRCRAFT

Sling

- Ballast the aircraft to respect CG location

- Guide the aircraft with staying ropes

Staying ropes

3.2.8 TOWING
The aircraft towing is carried out using tow-bar (1) with
fuse (rupture load 1000 +/- 50 daN).
REFER TO THE FLM FOR THE WEIGHT LIMIT OF THE AIRCRAFT TOWING
Keep an operator in the cockpit.
Check that the brake accumulator pressure is higher than 100 bars.
Do not exceed the maximum towing speed (10 Km/h).
