INTRODUCTION

You cant connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them
looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect
in your future. You have to trust in something

your gut, destiny, life, karma,

whatever.
Steve Jobs

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Choosing the right career can be difficult, but having a defined career
direction will help graduating students with getting a job. But with a little
hard work, some planning, and some serious self-reflection, they can
set theirself on a path towards a fruitful, fulfilling career that can provide for
them and their family.
To achieve a successful career path, this paper will explore the options
for a graduating student. Whats out there? What do job areas and roles look
like? What are the characteristics of different jobs, and their pros and cons?
Next is for that graduating student to reflect on himself/herself? What are
his/her strengths, values, and goals? What do he/she care about? What

environments will he/she thrive in? This is the job research part of the
process.
In choosing a career, there will be two things that is important and
should be noted as always.
First, self-awareness, because this involves looking at the skills,
values, interests and personality and analyzing where the strengths and
weaknesses lie. This could include: developing qualities and skills needed in
working life, including being able to work with others; developing positive
attitudes

towards

others

by

respecting

equal

opportunities;

and

understanding the impact of his/her career of actual and possible life roles
he/she may have in the future.
And second, opportunity awareness, because once done in the
preliminary self analysis, the next stage is to gather information on the
opportunities open. This could include: exploring the meaning of work in
his/her own and other peoples lives; investigating trends and changes in the
world of work; and organizing information about work in ways that are
helpful to me.
