1.0

PURPOSE
1.1 GENERAL
The purpose of this method of statement is to describe the
excavation and backfilling activity for the MACWANE GULF LLCfactory at ICAD II
1.2 SCOPE
The work involves digging out for pile caps, excavation to the top of
the piles; foundations, tie beams, trenches etc.

REFERENCE DOCUMENTS
All relevant civil drawings and specifications.

3.0

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENTS

4.0

PROCEDURES
4.1 Preparation for Excavation
a, Preparation of equipment tools and manpower for excavation
activities.
b, Secure permit of work from relevant authorities prior to the start
of excavation
d, Record all existing condition within the surrounding of excavation
area.
4.2 Excavation activity
Electrical cable Trench & General excavations.

a, Prior to excavation site supervisor will conduct a short talk the

hazard and
proper use of PPE
b, Excavation activity will be carried out as per surveyor marked
location, elevation based on drawing attached herein.
c, Manual excavation shall be carried out all through the required
depth.
d, All existing utilities excavation area shall be protected as per
site condition
e, Excavation shall be done manually to carefully manage and
protect against damage all the underground utilities found
inside pump house. If found, so when slowly remove the soil by
using a plastic shovel in the perimeter of utilities and protect it
properly.
f, If necessary excavated shall be braced and sheeted to provide
complete safety
to those persons working around the trench and to others
existing foundations.
l, Any existing utilities that have been removed during excavation
shall be restored as per project specification, approval &
satisfaction of the company.
m, Housekeeping must be done daily after work.

5.0

REVAMPING AREA
o Since some of the adjacent equipments are operational
proper orientation of workers must be done before starting
any activities.
o For existing Wires & Cables affected, proper protection must
be done.

o Protect adjacent equipment

o All precautionary signboard and tag must be visible at site.
o Ensure that only authorized personal are allowed within the
affected area
o All workers must be inducted and shall work in accordance
with the approved safety action plan and daily safe work
plan.
o Proper housekeeping must be done daily.

6.0

HEALTH AND SAFETY

6.1 General
It is the intention of GEC that all excavation / backfilling procedures
are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with the Health, safety
and Environment Plan Procedures.
6.2

Risk Assessment

1, General Assessment.
o Site safety
There are various risks associated with working on any site
and site regulations as laid down by the Site Owner/
Operator should be observe.
o PPE
The minimum Personal Protective Equipment is as follows :
Safety Helmet
Ear Defenders / Earplugs
Safety footwear
Eye protection

Safety Gloves
And any other equipment required by the site operator
or deemed necessary by the task.

2, Safety Precautions
o Barricade the working area
o All safety precautionary signboards must be visibly posted
o Ensure that only authorized personnel are within the
affected area
o The work shall be executed in accordance with the approved
safety.
o Action Plan and Daily Safe work plan.
o Tool Box Meeting must be established at site prior to start of
any activities, detailing potential hazards associated with the
work, and implement necessary action to caution involve
workers.
o Working in confined paces.
Personnel should to enter confined spaces without the
authority and direct supervision of qualified personnel. Site
owners and operators will have their own procedures for
entry into confined spaces and these should always be
followed. Always ensure the correct permit has been issued
and that all correct procedures have been carried out before
continuing. Under to circumstance should a person working
alone enter a confine space.
Excavation with more than 1.2Mtr. in depth are
considered as a confined space.
