The Importance of Education

The aim of Education is enlightenment of the mind and dissemination of

Truththe words of Kennedy looms around as the greatest truth upon which the
world is set is today. Look around! The boundless inventions that have come into
common use are all fruits of a hard toil called education. Thus education plays a
kingmaker in making humanity much better in all aspects. True to the words of
Nelson Mandela Education can change anything in the world. Having spoken
about Education at large I would like to shift the focus to our country. The phase of
Education in our country has had its ebb and flow. There was once a time when
Indians were the pioneers of all the fields of science. The long forgotten heroes of
Indian Science no longer feature in the curriculum and sadly only a few of them
are revered today. Then came a time, when invasions were the talk of the town, as
all novel ideas were suppressed. And now, there exists the resurgent Indian wanting
to make a mark on History. The road ahead is arduous. If the standard of Education
is to reach the heights that it had once surmounted, the people must work together.
Unfortunately they seem to be less aware of the fact than a recent movie. Maybe
this piece of writing will bring about awareness.
Education by definition is facilitated learning. By description this largely means
sharing the knowledge, skills, belief with a group of people. And as this suggests
the kingmaker education not just bestows you with skills and knowledge, but also
increases ones stronghold on social skills. In todays competitive world the men
who achieve are those with better soft skills. It is true that knowledge is power, but
social interaction is the very driving force that keeps man sanely alive.
Moreover, education can hand you a healthy employment. And any learned person
has an edge over any unskilled aspirant. Mere theoretical knowledge is not what
the world demands. (A mere machine can store and manipulate more data than an
average human brain) Experience is sadly the thing that many professionals lack
today. Many play the blame game claiming that the curriculum is bad. These
people must grow up and believe in the words of Gandhi Be the change you wish
to see. With holistic education comes experience.
Furthermore, common crimes in the society come to a standstill. It is an obvious
fact that poverty is the source of all evils. With adequate employment the streets

could be cleaner than ever. In addition, education imparts on an individual

responsibilityboth social and towards the family. A socially sound individual is a
blessing and only adds to the nations prosperity. Moral education will keep us
away from all the evils of the world. We all know that apartheid, slavery,
communalism are the worst possible scenarios that the world has seen. Had the
people been a little educated, such heinous deeds would not have been committed
against humanity.
Besides these, education can help you evolve as a more civilized person by
managing time, maintaining discipline and above all learn humility. Above all,
education could unlock all hidden potentials, could make one a better leader and
what not?!
Having discussed what education could do to individuals; let us discuss what it
could do to the National prosperity at large.
Innovation,advancement,newer idea

Unfortunately, the education scenario today is leading us nowhere. Even though

the MHRD allocates heaps of money in improving education, no guarantee can be
provided that all of it is spent in a useful way. Moreover, emphasis has been made
to only develop the central government institutions only quantitatively, emphasis
on quality has been lacking which may be one of the reasons why no Indian
(excluding NRIs) has won the Nobel Prize in science since Sir CV Raman. If the
richly funded IITs are in such a dilemma, think of the pathetic condition of the
students from private organizations. Statistically speaking the output of total
graduates in our country mounts to 2400,000. This proves the fact that I had
mentioned earlier.
It is a well known fact that education is a progressive process. The transition that
takes place from schools to colleges and universities must be a smooth one. By
smooth, I mean the students must be aware of what college life is like and what
school life is. A potential solution to this is offered by having both schools and
colleges in the same premises. This is well used in abroad, whereas in India such a
thing is still in the stage of a teetotaler.

Amid all difficulties that we face in the reality, India still has great potential. With
more than half of the countrys population as youth, India has a great scope to
improve in the field of education. The path would be difficult, but we must bear in
mind that To achieve the impossible, one must be concerned about the goal and
by no means the path that leads to it.
To bring about a change by proper legislations would take years, but it would
possibly come into quick effect if the people wish to see a change. Being the
largest democracy in the world this would be a piece of cake. But Where does this
problem lie? The answer to this is awareness. Being unaware of where this current
system would lead them to, the people remain silent spectators to this atrocity.
