CLINICAL TEACHING PLAN
CAGAYAN VALLEY ADVENTIST HOSPITAL
A. DESCRIPTION OF LEARNERS
The learners are in Level III, which are heterogeneous group in terms of their
ages, family income and educational background. The age ranges from 18 22 and
in terms of family income, some are from middle-income family while some are from
high-income families.
These junior nursing students have already been exposed to CVAH during
their sophomore year since they have already been adapting the new curriculum for
the BSN course.
B. THE TRAINING GROUND
The Cagayan Valley Adventist Hospital (Formerly Cagayan Valley Sanitarium
and Hospital) was established in March 1959 by Dr. Celedonio Fernando. It is a
tertiary hospital with 50 bed capacity located in Mabini, Maharlika Hi-way, Santiago
City.
With fervent efforts and cooperation of the CVAH Administration and Staff, the
hospital was accredited in 2006 as ISO9001-2000 version. Recently, it has been
certified and again passed the accreditation of ISO 9001-2008.
CVAH is the first hospital in Region 2 to be accredited by the ISO.
C. OBJECTIVES OF LEARNING:
At the end of the first semester, the student nurses will:
1. Be oriented to:
a. The agencys philosophy, goals, policies.
b. Unit characteristics, services, staff characteristics, client population, and
agency/unit rules of demeanor.
3. Exercise the role and responsibilities of an efficient student nurse with minimal
supervision.

4. Attain appropriate personal, educational, and experiential data including roles and
responsibilities, duties and obligations of being an efficient nurse
5. Experience appropriate corresponding learning experiences that are available
within the agency throughout the scheduled rotation.
6. Establish a Clinical Calendar for the practicum including days/hours in the
agency and a regular series of review meetings to provide feedback and discuss
student progress towards the course and personal objectives.
7. Develop appropriate technical and behavioral skills through observation,
demonstration, role modeling.
8. Become adept in problem solving and making independent judgments and plans
to promote a sense of autonomy and professional identity.
D. FOCUS OF CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Primary Focus: Basic Concepts and Procedures, Fundamentals of Nursing
Secondary Focus: Medical- Surgical, Maternal and Child, Completion of OR Delivery
