A vacancy exists for an experienced and


technically competent Metallurgist in the
Metallurgy Section within the Processing
Operations Department. The successful
incumbent will be responsible for the optimisation of the production process and to
review operation practices, methodology and
technological application to achieve a safe,
low cost and efficient operation. This includes
the investigation of process alternatives both
technically and economically and to provide
advice for metallurgical operations of the plant.

Key performance areas


Conducts technical process audits and carries
out rigorous process data analyses for area
of responsibility. Determines root causes for
process deviations, communicates deviations
and develops action plans to address.
Identifies areas of improvement related to
process efficiency, process control, equipment operation and production costs.
Investigates and recommends improved
operating methods and technologies that will
add value to the bottom line.
Implements approved technical improvement
project(s) within area of responsibility and
manage the timeline, costs and sustainability
of the project(s).
Supervises and controls the activities,
standards of performance and behaviour of
designated subordinate staff.
Advises Operations team of changes in feed
quality, expected upsets and of operational
procedures to be followed to deal with
anticipated process upsets.
Liaises with and works closely with Operations Superintendents, foremen and plant
operators.

Prepares business cases for the


implementation of new technology,
chemical or process changes.
Provides input into the quarterly forecast for
production planning and major consumables
(process reagents) planning, based on
the analysis of previous performance and
improvement opportunities.

Minimum requirements
Grade 12 certificate and a recognised
Bachelor of Science or B Tech degree in
Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy or
Processing Engineering or equivalent.
A minimum of three years working
experience in a mining processing environment.
Code BE drivers licence
