THE ROLE OF COMMUNICATION IN INTERPERSONAL RELATION
Communication is the center of our lives as people. In society, we
communicate and interact with everyone around us. If one lacks the ability to communicate properly then problems will arise. Pearson, Nelson, Titsworth, Harter believes bad communication is the root of many problems and good communication is one of the solutions to solve it. The interpersonal relation that is established is the backbone of society. Through communication we are able to increase our knowledge of other people, a heightened awareness of self, and reach success professionally. Communication, based on, Pearson, Nelson, Titsworth, and Harter, is defined as a process of using messages to produce meaning. If we see it as a process then we can accept it a series of events that changes dynamically. Messages that are transferred are symbols in forms of ideas, facial expression, body language, physical contact, and other non-verbal codes. Meaning in the form of information is the result of this process and messages. This process helps to connect individuals and bad communication gives false meaning that could lead to growing issues. A process is not acute, good communication needs to be constant and continuous. Based on Pearson, Nelson, Titsworth, and Harter, Communication is comprised of people, messages, channels, feedback, and encoding and decoding. In communication, there has to be people who act as source and receiver. The source then shows his/her want to communicate through messages. These messages are verbal and non-verbal forms of ideas or feelings that the person want to send, they are in the form of codes that are used to build up thoughts and ideas in a persons mind. To have a proper communication then we also need to encode and decode. Encode is the process of translating ideas to code, decoding is the process of how to place that idea and understand the context of what the source is telling. Messages are transferred through channels which can be airwaves, light waves, etc. to allow the receiver to hear or see the ideas given by source. Communication is a two way activity, there has to be feedback from the receiver to source so that the source knows that the sent message is received properly. Communication can be expressed through many forms. Verbally through sound and words, non-verbally which is seen through our body language. We can write down what we communicate through literature and visually through photography. Communication is the transfer of ideas, so the many ways we communicate, in any form, is possible as long as it can be received well by the receiver. Communication happens in a certain context or situation. The people involved effects the type of communication that is happening. Interpersonal is self-communication involves the person being both source and receiver. The person communicates through dreams and self-introspection, encoding and decoding the information he fed to himself. When in groups and to the masses we need to maximize comprehension and think about how utilize the channels and ideas we want to spread.
Communication plays an important part in our lives. We strive in
expanding our ideas and sharing it with other people. Good communication is an important factor in society. We need to understand the components and the context in which communication is established. In interpersonal relations with other people we can use communication to help us solve problems.
