Reflection of the carrying out the grammar lesson in the class.

In a minute I received the task from my lecturer, I had decided to design a


lesson plan that using the songs techniques because I am excited in song. I am sure
my pupils also love songs very much. It is enjoyable to teach using the songs
because I already used this techniques for many times since I start teaching on 2003
until now. It a great pleasure to listen to the song.
Nowadays the curricculum faced several changes and I noticed that the new
one is the KSSR modular activities had given the English language a energetic
session for teacher and students indeed. Before this I had teach year 4,5 and 6 for
several years and sometimes I used the songs to attract pupils. Starting for this year I
had be given a chance to teach the KSSR class in year three. It is such an honour for
me to teach the year 3 class.
For the lesson, I had chose world of knowledge theme and the topic is Places
in my town. In this lesson I stressed more on prepositions for examples in,on,at and
under. In addition, I add several new prepositions as for the pupils knowledge. I used
the song in the set induction and the songs tittle is wheres the monkey. I got this
song from the you tube and it has animation and the script of the song. For the first
time listens to the song, my pupils listen and sing the song. I am very proud because
my students are active and involved themselves during the activities provided. They
are interested to the song since they in year one. I noticed that my students can
recognize the prepositions words and understand when they want to use it in a
sentence with my guidance. I am fortunate because I can search the resources or the
material in the internet. By using the technology, I can find suitable pictures to show
the prepositions appropriately and I am sure the students can understand the
meaning based on the animation shown and also the pictures cards.
During the set induction, all the pupils involved themselves to sing the song
shown on the LCD projector. They love song very much so I do not have any problem
about it. I only monitor and sing the song with them because there are several
students that have a manner problem or hardly to focus in the class. They are mostly
cannot read well and I need to pay attention about their behaviour and instill a good

values in order to attract them to like the English language lesson. I ask several
questions about the song to gain their understand about the topic of the lesson.
Mostly of the students in my year three class are very excited to answer and eager to
contribute their ideas about the songs. They can answer the questions very well and I
can proceed to the next stage by showing them the picture cards or on the LCD
projector.
Based on my experience, most of the children enjoyed themselves to learn
through the song. The song can make them to understand the content of the song
easily. I use various pictures to show the positions of the things. Children always
interested to learn through different kinds of materials such as using songs and
video, coloured pictures and a few challenging activities in the classroom.
Grammar is central to the teaching and learning of languages. It is also one of
the more difficult aspects of language to teach as well. I had to admit it. It is tough to
teach grammar alone.Grammar is partly the study of what forms (or structures) are
possible in a language and it is a fact. Grammar according to Rutheford (1987) is a
necessary component of any language teaching programme (p.9), and thus plays an
important role in language teaching. However, the focus on grammar in language
teaching was challenged with the emergence of teaching methodologies based on
different learning theories, such a challenge influenced not only the content and the
curriculum in language teaching, but also the implication for teaching grammar.
For a good grammar teaching, I have to make the lesson meaningful and
interesting in which pupils need to be surrounded by and participate in meaningful
discourse in their ESL classroom. I noticed that I should take the language learning
forwards and bring in grammatical features of stories, dialogues, songs, etc. to the
attention of my pupils in order to attract the pupils attention.On the other hand, if I as
a teacher lack of ability to apply the appropriate techniques and plan suitable
activities for the pupils i can destroy the pupils motivation in learning grammar.
Thus, according to Chitravelu (2005), there are several features that a teacher has
to consider when planning suitable techniques in the grammar classes. I think i need
to do some revision before teaching and be more creative while planning my lesson
and also create an attractive activities to make the pupils learn meaningfully.

To be in the new era of life ,or a modern life I am very fortunate because there
are a lot of facilities that I can use during planning the lesson or during teaching my
students in the classroom. The facilities really give a lot of benefits to me and
advantages for my students although they are in a rural area. The school are
provided with computer laboratory,computer and internet can make teaching is more
easier than older time.
I think the lesson that i had created is very sutable for the students and
contains a few interesting activities for learning grammar.
