The National Coordinators Address

Greetings to all the Saints of our Lord Jesus Christ whose return we
earnestly wait. It is indeed an honour and privilege to express the
tremendous task that has been to committed in my trust this UCAM year
2015/2016. However, with God all things are possible because he has
given us His grace and strength, not to mention the astounding executive
team I am currently working with. Our
vision for this year revolves around the
theme: Rebuilding the walls of prayer.
We are looking forward to rebuilding the
weaker

campuses

by

uniting

to:

strengthen the national UCAM body and

more importantly winning souls for
Christ on the local campuses.
I would also like to acknowledge the support we have received over the
years from our alumni members. However, we know there are many
others who have been a part of the ministry but have not yet lent their
support. Simply put, we need your help. We welcome all guidance in
administration accompanied by proper demeanour, monetary and
labour contributions in our events and prayers for Gods divine
providence. We know that with the full support of our alumni members,
UCAM will become an even greater force to be reckoned with far
reaching effects in Jamaica.
Finally, the national executive body of 2015/2016 and I are looking
forward, by the grace of God, to ensure that the ministry continues to be
effective on each campus. We crave your support and prayers as we seek
to continue to fulfil the tasks that are set before us to be accomplished.
God bless you.
National Coordinator (2015-2016)
Shane Brown

You know youre a UCAMer if

What is it that really makes a UCAMer? Baptism in Jesus name? Oh
yes! Infilling of the Holy Spirit and living a Godly life? No doubt
about it. Yet there are some experiences that only a UCAMer will
have and for those of you have passed through, Im sure youll be
nodding your head at quite a few. You know youre a UCAMer if
1. You return to your home church you are so zealous in your worship
that everyone is wondering if its the same person who left three
months earlier.
2. You find yourself running the aisles when they raise Forward Still Tis
Jehovahs Will, Death Hath No Terror or Blessed Jesus Hold My
Hand.
3. When your bus breaks down on the way to retreat and in the interim
you end up having a Testimony Service.
4. When you havent paid your tuition but find yourself miraculously
registered.
5. When lecturers know you because you miss their classes for prayer
meetings.
6. When you head off to weekend retreat knowing you have ten exams
the following week and when you tell your classmates they looking at
you like you lost your mind.

7.

When your grade is miraculously changed form an F to a P.

Year in Review September 2014-December 2015

In an age where many, especially our youth are seeking to identify
themselves with particular groups or organizations for whatever reason
beneficial to them, a unique set of radical and unorthodox Christians have
redefined and repurposed this thinking. What started out as the Pentecostal
Students Fellowship with just a handful of members, later became the TriCampus ministry and has now evolved into the Universities and Colleges
Apostolic Ministry with ministries on 17 campuses across Jamaica and over
650 members. Our mission is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ within our
respective campuses and to provide an avenue where young persons of the
Apostolic faith can not only fellowship together, but provide a support
system for each other and is one of the driving forces that helps persons not
to lose sight of their Christianity as they pursue a tertiary education.
The academic year September 2014 began with our Leadership
Retreat which was held at Refuge Temple Apostolic, Manchester. Executive
members from each campus gathered for a day fellowship that left us
empowered and ready to face the challenges ahead.
Roll Call was held on October 18th at the Bethel Tabernacle United
Pentecostal Church, St. Ann. This saw members from campuses across the
island gather for one mighty service and one person was reclaimed.
Weekend Retreat is a weekend where hundreds of UCAMers gather at an
assembly from Friday to Sunday and engage in Evangelistic activities within
the community inclusive of a street service; this helps to strengthen
especially those assemblies that are struggling.

It was held from Nov. 14-16 at the First United Pentecostal Church
in Manchester and saw fourteen persons baptized, six persons receiving
the Holy Ghost and one person reclaimed.
We began the Year 2015 with our National Day of Prayer and
Fasting which was held at the Gordon Pen Apostolic Church on January 24,
where the people of God gathered together to pray and to seek the face of
God.
March 1 ushered in UCAFEST, our annual Praise and Worship Fest
and this was held at the University of the West Indies Assembly Hall. Up to
1000 persons attend each year to lift up the name of Jesus through songs,
spoken word and music.
Our penultimate event for the academic year is our End of Year
Retreat, which was held in Clydesdale St. Ann on April 17-19. This saw
fifteen persons baptized,
five filled with the Holy
Ghost

and

one

person

reclaimed.
We must give all
the honour and glory to
Jesus Christ for doing such
a mighty work in us and
through us. To those who have gone before and set such an awesome
platform for us, keep us in your prayers that our strength fail not and that
we may continue to do the work of Him that has sent us. God bless.

Where are They Now?... Joan Russell

The year was 1976, Joan Russell, a nursing student at the
University Hospital of the West Indies had heard about other apostolic
ministries at UWI and CAST (UTECH) and decided that there was a need
for a similar ministry within the nursing school. She started having prayer
meetings in her room with just a hand full of persons which was inclusive
of Apostolics and members from other denominations. At the first meeting,
the presence of the Lord came down in such a mighty way that a backslider
was reclaimed. There was also a member of a Trinitarian assembly whom
she believes God was convicting about baptism in Jesus name as she began
repeating In My Name you must, you must! This was just the beginning of
the revival that was to take the nursing school by storm.
Subsequent to this meeting, there was a movie night where the
film Hell Fire was shown. Many nurses were in attendance including those
who were at the prayer meeting. Some persons left the film in tears and
other persons claiming to be prophets caused chaos within the nursing
community, as they began delivering false prophecies to other students.
Oh, it was just crazy the school was in a mess. she exclaimed. This
troubled Sis. Russell and she began to seek the Lord earnestly in prayer. It
was then that the Lord gave her a passage of scripture which said Woe be
unto the prophets who prophecy in my name saying I have fed and I have
not; making the righteous sad.

It was then that she decided that having the ministry was no
longer an option it was a necessity. After receiving permission from the
house mother, they began having services on Thursday nights. Services
were dynamic and nothing like the nursing school had ever experienced.
Members of the Apostolic ministry at CAST and UWI supported the
fellowship and within a short space of time, quite a number of persons were
baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Spirit. And I must say as
well that quite a number of marriages came out of the ministry, she said
with a smile in her voice.
However, they faced some challenges at the time as some of the
nurses were against Apostolics and didnt like their way of worship
claiming that they were too
noisy. Some persons gave
them the cold shoulder and
began

passing

certain

remarks, even going as far as

to

say

that

they

were

preaching

false

doctrine.

However,

they

remained

steadfast and pressed on. In

total

17

persons

were

converted through the ministry within a short period of time and it was
pure joy for Sis. Russell and the other Apostolics on campus. God had
allowed a revival to take place.

After 4 years in nursing Sis. Russell went into life insurance and
held various managerial positions within the sector. After working there
for 14 years she responded to the leading of the Lord and decided to go into
full time ministry, serving as Assistant Pastor to Pastor Stewart (then
pastor of Pentecostal Tabernacle, Wildman Street). She served in this
position up until a few months ago and now assists her husband, Pastor
Clebert Russell in pasturing Pentecostal Tabernacle, Hellshire. Together,
they also operate a nursing home under the name TLC Services Limited. A
brilliant author, she has written the book The Great Provider, a book of
miracles that shares her personal experience of Gods miraculous power.
Her second book is soon to be published and she is currently working on a
third. She has been married to her husband for 36 years and they have four
children: Junior, Andre, Marcel and Renee.
Her encouragement to the present generation of UCAMers is to
give it your best. To remember that you interact with many unsaved
students who after graduation you may never have the opportunity to
minister to again. UCAMers you are not here by chance but God has sent
you into the various campuses for a purpose.

Testimonial of Chantelle Walker

Blessings everyone! I grew up in churchI mean I was raised in
church and I would go to Pentab (Wildman Street) or Pentecostal Gospel
Temple with my grandmother on a Sunday or I would go to Shiloh by myself
or with my mother because it was right next door. In church, I was the
troublemaker, running all over, from upstairs to downstairs, sliding on the
benches, taking off my stocking or peoples hats, pinching or teasing other
kids. Deep down there was a desire to become a Christian but at the time I
was more focused on becoming the hot girl. I remember when I was seven
and I was in downtown Kingston with my mother who was a vendor there.
We got into a fight which ended with her beating me and shouting, Go home
to your father! I was adamant that I wasnt going home. Ten to twenty
minutes later I received the devastating news that my father was shot and
killed. I was broken and confused and I wanted God to explain why he had
taken my father. But little did I know that God had a plan for my life.
When I was in sixth form, the desire to become a Christian was
still in my heart, but pshhparties were on my mind. I would go to parties
most Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. I loved to party. I remember one
day I was to go out but I just had the urge not to leave my home. I began
wondering why I was feeling so down and I started praying and reading my
favourite scripture from Psalm 91. I didnt understand what it was but I left
my home nonetheless. When I got into the taxi I told the driver not to speed
because I hate speeding. However, he completely disregarded what I said
and began driving as though he was on a race course. While he was speeding,
all I found myself saying was Jesus! Jesus! and I shall not die but live and

declare the works of the Lord. I dont know where that came from because
I dont even remember ever seeing or hearing that before. I kept shouting
Mighty God! Jesus! He refused to slow down so myself and the other
passengers decided to jump out of the taxi. A couple seconds later we heard
a loud commotion further down the road, only to realize that the same taxi
ran into a light post and the post fell on the front seat of the car where I was
sitting. That day I should have been dead but by Gods grace I walked away
with just a bruised knee. I began giving God thanks!
I later became a student of UTECH and I continued with the same
lifestyle. One night while at school in the summer, I was passing the chapel
and some UCAMers were there praying. So I stopped to listen. One of my
friends came and he invited me to go upstairs with him to eat, drink and
play dominoes and chill. Immediately a voice said to me, Thats the devil,
dont go. So I told my friend no, and I stayed. I wanted to go in but I was
thinking

want

bombard

to

didnt

anybodys service so
I stood outside in my
pants, merino and
earrings and before I
knew

what

was

happening, I found
myself crying. They
were still praying
when I walked off. I
found myself crying
and calling out to

Jesus. I began visiting the UCAM services on Thursdays and I met the
UCAMers who became sisters and brothers to me.
September came and one Thursday a friend of mine asked me
if I was going to get baptized. I sat down and started thinking about my life
and all the times when God had given me a second chance. I said yes and it
has been the best decision I have ever made. UCAM has impacted my life so
much. It is not like the ordinary church. I tell myself that once college days
are over Ill miss UCAM because the teachings, the word, praise and worship
are just so different. I can say UCAM has been a big blessing in my life. I
have friends now that will share with me when I dont have groceries. I have
never experienced the stereo type of Apostolics who they say will look down
on you if you wear pants and jewellery. I wore my pants and jewellery till I
felt convicted and decided to stop wearing them. I just want to pray Gods
continuous mercies upon this ministry and that He will bless it in
abundance. Even though they are Christians, there are persons you can
worship and fellowship with and will show you the right path. There can be
clean and holy fun. Im just grateful for UCAM!
