Q.2 (a) In a factory there are six jobs to be perform, each of which should go through two machines 07
A and B in order AB. The processing timings (in hours) for the jobs are given in following
table. Determine the sequence for performing the jobs that minimize the total elapsed time.
Also find the value of total elapsed time.

Q.3 (a) (i). By using time phased plan for component inventories, a firm can reduce average
inventory levels from 105 units to 42.5 units. If the average component value is Rs. 12 and
reduction applies to 4000 components, how much of saving would result? Use inventory
carrying cost of 30 % per year.
(ii). Discuss inventory status file as an MRP input.
(b) (i). Discuss the concept of dependent and independent demand.
(ii). Discuss production systems for farming industry.

Q.3 (a) A firm producing wheelbarrows is expected to deliver 40 wheelbarrows in week 1, 60 in
week 4, 60 in week 6 and 50 in week 8. Among the requirements for each wheelbarrow are
two handlebars, one wheel assembly and one tire for wheel assembly. For garden tractor
shipment, 90 wheel assemblies are also needed in period 5. A shipment of 300 handlebars is
already scheduled to be received at the beginning of week 2. Complete the MRP for
handlebars, wheel assemblies and tires and show what quantities or order must be released
and when they must be released to satisfy the master schedule.
Order quantities, lead times and inventories on hand at the beginning of period 1 are shown
in following table.
