Village of Huntley

50/50 Residential Parkway Tree Replacement Program Spring 2016

If your parkway tree has already been removed, you are eligible to participate in one of the Villages
Residential Parkway Tree Replacement Programs:
Program #1: Tree Replacement Program
If you are interested in ordering a parkway tree directly from the Village (we will handle the rest),
simply complete the Tree Order Form, include your payment in full (checks only, please) and return
everything to the address listed below. Orders will be accepted through April 15th or until quantities
run out (whichever is first). Trees come with a one-year guarantee.
Weather permitting, it is anticipated that the trees will be planted by mid-May. You will receive a
notification prior to the installation of your new tree.
The types of trees offered this year follow. Please note that there is a limited amount of each tree
offered so orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. We ask that
you list your 1st and 2nd choices. If your 1st choice is no longer available, Village staff will contact
you to confirm your 2nd choice.
Please read through the general information and indicate your choices of tree for your parkway.
Once the tree is planted, it becomes your responsibility as the property owner to maintain the tree.
The cost to the homeowner is found on the order form.
Important Information:
The location of the tree to be planted is solely at the discretion of the Village of
Huntley.

The Village of Huntley will not be responsible for the replacement or maintenance of
the following but not limited to: existing landscaping, mulch, annual/perennial
plantings, stone or other enhancements in the area, edging, etc. so please have the
parkway clear of items.

Care and maintenance of the new tree is solely the responsibility of the property
owner (instructions will be provided prior to installation).

Orders will not be processed unless check or money order payment in full is received
with this order form. Please make check or money order payable to the Village of
Huntley.

Orders will be accepted in person, dropped in either payment drop box, or via U.S.

Village of Huntley
Parkway Tree Staking Order Form
Spring, 2016
If you have purchased a tree through the Villages 50/50 Residential Parkway Tree Replacement
Program and wish to have Apex Landscaping also stake your tree once planted, please complete
the following, attach a separate check and return this with your tree order form and we will forward
your order onto Apex.

Please note: Certified Arborists and Foresters report that trees that are free to sway in the breeze

grow better and live longer than trees staked and tied in place. In short, most newly planted trees
do not need to be staked and wired as most balled and burlapped trees, such as the trees planted
through the Villages program, have enough of a root ball that they are bottom-heavy and can stand
upright on their own when first planted. Such trees need some wind-caused movement to stimulate
growth and proper root and stem development. Tying them in place often results in odd growth
patterns and troublesome stem conditions from the temporary restriction against movement.
Studies have shown that trees staked and wired tend to put their energy into growing taller but not
wider, especially near the ground. This is not good. It leads to a lack of proper stem taper and poor
root development. Such trees outgrow their own ability to support themselves and eventually they
break or fall over. Trees free to move, on the other hand, tend to have larger diameters, better
stem form, and stronger root systems. They last longer.
Resident Cost: $110/staked tree
Please make check payable to: Apex Landscaping
The Morton Arboretum website states that when new tree stability is a problem, trunks of trees
should be staked for 1-3 years until new roots stabilize the tree. Staking materials should be
checked monthly during the growing season to prevent damage to the bark. Failure to loosen or
remove staking wires has girdled many trees.
Staking Process: Apex Landscaping will plant all the parkway trees and once completed will come
back and stake them.
